Our objective is to provide an extensive resource of Australian and related International sites. We will list not only popular sites, but those that are a bit obscure and hard to find which may contain missing pieces of information valuable to the researcher. In addition, we offer a free submission service to all, and encourage family tree, personal pages and other genealogy related web sites. ENG The 192 web site has just put a search function on its website for the the 2004 Electoral Roll for England I think, may be the rest of the UK. It gives three years of Electoral Roll information, useful if folk have moved during that time. One can pay for searches by buying Credits or buy the CD which can be ordered online. One does need to pay a little but for those of us who live Down under¹, its cheaper than an airfare to get Up and over¹. It does have a FREE search facility as well which can give some info. http://www.192.com/peoplesearch.cfm?er=2004 ENG BMD http://images.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/choose.pl FREE. 1837 to 1910 only. "In order to add to the service that we already provide to the genealogical community, FreeBMD has today made its scanned images of the GRO index (previously available only to transcribers) available to the general public. Prior to this move, viewing the indexes was only possible at libraries or on pay-per-view internet sites. Whilst FreeBMD doesn't yet have a complete set of images, the nearly 700,000 images that we do have represent a good proportion of the indexes from 1837 to 1910, and we hope that people will find the facility useful. The initial interface is somewhat crude, but further enhancements to this new area of the site are planned, and we will announce them as they happen." ENG CENSUS The following motion was tabled in the House of Commons on 22 March 2004 by Alistair Carmichael MP and already has the support of at lest 84 MP's. That is about 1 in 6 of all back bench MP's That this House notes that the average closure period for pre-1911 UK decennial population census records is 80 years; that informants were not guaranteed that the 1911 Census records would be closed for 100 years; that the release of the 1911 Census Online for England and Wales in 2004/5 would be likely to generate between £10m and £40m in revenue before the scheduled release date of 2012; and urges the Lord Chancellor and the Registrar General to use their existing powers, under section 5(1) of the Public Records Act 1958, to arrange for the early release of the 1911 Census Online, thus making the most of a golden opportunity to generate very substantial income between 2004 and 2012 from those records and facilitating genealogical research worldwide. (Early Day Motion 871) To let us know that you want the English, Scottish or Welsh 1911 Censuses released in 2004/5, just send an email (including your full postal address) under the subject 1911 CENSUS RELEASE to carmichaela@parliament.uk; brian.adam.msp@scottish.parliament.uk; denis.mccready@clara.co.uk Our MP's and MSP's are overworked and understaffed so please do not expect to receive a reply. I can assure you that your comments will be noted but we are unlikely to be able to acknowledge the e-mails we receive. Do e-mail one of the above MP's who are fighting the good fight in Parliament on your behalf to get the 1911 Census released sooner rather than waiting until 2012. The above was noted in the Suffolk Roots Journal (June 2004) and was courtesy of Ipswich's MP Chris Mole. If you would like to see the early release of the UK 1911 census please email as described above. ENG ESS http://www.bygone-ancestors.com Bygone Ancestors ESSEX Family Research Service.
