Warrington LAING was born at Jedburgh, Scotland in 1852. Thanks to Bev Edmonds' transcripts, I have found a reference to him at Townsville in "The Queenslander" of April 6, 1889. [The article referred to the drowning of Mr G F Thomson.] LAING was also named in an advertisement in "The Times" of March 26, 1895, as the Townsville Manager of the North Queensland Mortgage & Investment Company. By 1901, he was back in London and described in the census as "Australian merchant". He went on to become a director of several well known UK financial institutions such as Commercial Union Assurance Company. He was married in England in 1904 at age 52. I do not know whether he had a previous marriage in Australia. Can anyone suggest where I might find more information about Warrington LAING in Townsville and also the North Queensland Mortgage & Investment Company please? Sincerely, Brenton Wood Adelaide South Australia _________________________________________________________________ SEEK: Now with over 50,000 dream jobs! Click here: http://ninemsn.seek.com.au?hotmail
