NEW RELEASES FROM ARCHIVE CD BOOKS Barretts' Directory and Topography of Lancaster, 1886 This directory covers Lancaster, Morecambe, Carnforth, Milnthorpe, Kirkby Lonsdale, Bentham, Ingleton and adjacent villages and townships. The Robins or Robbins Family of England details the branches of the family in Jersey, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Cheshire, Cornwall, Derbyshire, Devonshire, Dorset, Essex, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Leicestershire, Middlesex, Norfolk, Oxfordshire, Shropshire, Somerset, Staffs, Suffolk, Surrey, Sussex, Warwickshire, Wiltshire, Worcestershire, and Yorkshire 1911 T. Bulmer & Co.'s History, Topography And Directory Of Furness & Cartmel Comprising its history and archaeology, physical and geological features, with separate historical and topographical descriptions of each town, parish and manor. Records of the University of St. Andrews Early Records of the University of St. Andrews, Edinburgh (Fully indexed). The Graduation Roll 1413-1579 and The Matriculation Roll 1473-1579 Kent 1861 Census Registration Districts RG 9/462-556 Register of Persons Entitled to Vote - Borough of Nottingham Unlike the normal "Poll Books", which were a record of those actually voting, these books contain the names and addresses of all persons entitled to vote in the election for a Member of Parliament. White's History, Gazetteer and Directory of Nottinghamshire, 1894 This comprehensive directory gives the names and addresses of Nottinghamshire inhabitants but also gives fascinating extra inform, ation that will enable you to build up an idea of what it was really like to live in 1894. White's Directory of Nottinghamshire 1885-6 Exhaustively covers all places in Nottinghamshire, providing great insights into not only the names and addresses of ancestors but also the conditions in which they lived through And from Canada ( I have included this as it might be of interest to you all, this is from Archive Books Canada) * Gazetteer and Business Directory, Canada 1930 Product No. CA0035 : $45.00 A wonderful book with a truly misleading original title. Of the almost 2000 pages in this book the gazetteer takes up 70 while the rest are devoted to a wonderfully complete directory of Canadian businesses and professional people and their advertising. This is a great resource in a Country where early directories are so scarce. Both the gazetteer and the Business Directory are indexed by Province but the business Directory is also sub-indexed by trade or profession. So, if you are looking for someone who was a Grocer in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan you can go straight to the alphabetized list of 71 candidates, most of who were trading under their own name rather than under a company name. In fact the vast majority of the businesses listed were named for the owner including, of course, the professional listings for Physicians, Veterinarians, Barristers, Insurance Agents, etc. Archive CD Books homepage - http://www.archivecdbooks.com WEBPAGE REVIEWS http://www.hometown.aol.co.uk/pitexplosion/index.htm?f=fs A really very interesting site about the Badderley/ Baxterley pit explosion of 1882. A real insight into the dangers faced by many of our ancestors, and the tragic consequences when it went wrong. This site has accounts of the event as well as lists of those who died, were injured, and otherwise involved. A really fascinating account. I did not like the design of the homepage, mainly for its use of frames, but as you browse deeper this seems to go. Particularly notable on the site are the citations for bravery, and the accounts of trying to rescue. Gives a really good account of the dangers of life in the mines. http://www.kirbymisperton.org.uk/ Another one place site, packed full of information this one is for Kirby Misperton in Ryedale, Yorkshire. The site contains census information, Nineteenth century directories, old (and new) pictures, and information from Tithes and from the Domesday Book. Simply laid out, quick to load and very easy to move around this is an excellent site that will be of use to many people whose ancestors came from or passed through the Ryedale area http://www.peterch.fsnet.co.uk/Pages&Frames/pg-info.htm This is a sub-site of a general genealogy page and I really thought this was a nice idea. Regular readers will know I like a site with a bit of background information, and this site is concerned with the background information. It give a basic, simple and easy to understand history of England, both political and social, with information on Kings, major historical events, employment, money, health and transport, amongst many other things. If your UK history is sketchy and you want to know more about the backgrounds to your ancestors lives then this really is an excellent site to visit. Well laid out and easy to navigate this site is well worth a visit CERTIFICATES BIRTH BURKE, Margaret, dau of Patrick & Margaret, 6 Jan 1898, Swansea, GLA BURKE, Margaret, dau of Michael and Alice, 6 May 1890, Cardiff, GLA PARKER, Florie, dau of William & Annie, 14 July 1878, Kensington, MDX MARRIAGE THOMAS, John & EVERETT Ann, 24 July 1840, Shoreditch, MDX WEBB, James William & TILLCOCK, Annie, 23 January 1881, Great Amwell, Hertford If this is of use to you in your own personal research, drop me a line At gfhn@thompson04.wanadoo.co.uk and I will put you in touch with the current holder Meanwhile, if you have a certificate you don't need that may be of use to someone else then drop me a line, and we will advertise it in an upcoming newsletter . I finally found my grandfathers name on the 1901 census with wife Kate and daughter Florence . There is no birth cert for Florence so now presume she was adopted (Born 1901) As it is an unusual name thought it would be easy to trace but can only find one Worlow on 1881 census.I have no relatives left and my mother Florence never mentioned her family and left behind no details . Thanks mary.courtney@ntlworld.com My great uncle William Metcalfe disappeared shortly after being demobbed in 1919. He initially returned to the family home in Scarcroft (W.R. Yorks) where his mother was postmistress but disappeared without trace a couple of years later. I have no idea which regiment or even service he was in although it is likely to have been for the duration. Any ideas? Chris Gallagher newshawk@supanet.com To anyone who can help me, my brickwall is woolwich kent 1807. I am loking for the parents of David Palmer Halladay who was Born in Woolwich on the 5th march,1807 I have that date in his handwriting on his certificate of competency as a master mariner.
