Charters Towers sure gets a lot of interest from people researching family history from all over the world. It would be great to see a web site about charters towers with pictures and a story like our Irvinebank pages @ www.infocus.to/irvinebank If you read the comments in the guestbook you will see what a valuable resource the site has been for people researching family history. Has Charters got a similar resource already? Remember that people around here used to refer to Charters Towers as 'The World'. It would also be a good way to sell books on Charters Towers as we do about Irvinebank. By the Way, Charters Towers might be The World, but Irvinebank is the Centre of the Universe...<GRIN> -----Original Message----- From: The Hurles [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, 5 January 2001 8:55 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Charters Towers around 1890 Hi again Richard & List, My GGrandgfather arrived "On the Towers" around Feb 1872 and obtained a "Miners Right" in April/May of that year. By 1884 he had given up prospecting and had turned his hand to Pastoralism. I have a few different bits & pieces that might interest you including some very early mine photo's that I'll send in a few days once I get them together.
