I am trying to find some information on my family in Townsville. It is tricky , given that I live in the UK. Johanna Brigid Milne (nee Anderson) was my G-Grandmother. She emigrated from Waterford , Ireland sometime after 1888. She has at some point married William Milne and they resided in Perkins Street, Townsville. Johanna had a son born in Ireland - John J Anderson (b 1888)(out of wedlock) He emigrated to Australia sometime around 1908. He lived in several places(?? Atherton) before residing in Townsville also. He was my grandfather. I believe John had some connection with Dr. Forrest and family in Charters Towers (1912ish) through the time he spent in the Irish Regiment in Ireland. I was born and grew up in Townsville also. Johanna died in 1954 - I have no details other than that. I don't know who William Milne was or when he died. I believe they had a son called Alexander. I do not even know when my grandfather died but I believe it was in Townsville. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I could find Marriage and death details from for my family or anything at all ...! Hope someone can help Thanks Erin Sullivan

AUS Mary Ann Warner has just uploaded new crew and passenger lists into Sydney 1854 - 1879.These include ships and passengers out of Launceston, Hobart, and Circular head etc.(to Sydney, or enroute to other ports). http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/shipdate.htm Mary Ann's work is voluntary, and is hosted by the NSW Government. You can view the transcribed lists, as well as the ORIGINAL passenger/crew list. This is a brilliant resource for Australian genealogy, and Mary Ann welcomes anyone who has a spare hour who would like to help transcribe a list. They are easy to do, and Mary Ann helps you with the process. So if you have been considering volunteering for a project, Mary Ann would love some help. There are already a team of volunteers helping, but extra hands would be great. If you wish you can pick a month of any year where you think family arrived, and just transcribe a certain number of ships if you wish. Ship's arrived at Sydney from both intercolonial and international ports. These passengers and crew are arriving from overseas as well as from interstate. They also include stowaways, deaths at sea etc. The lists include the occupation and ages of seamen. If May Ann can complete the pre 1900 era, she is going to move on to ships after this time, so it is to the benefit of all that these lists are made available on time. SCT ARTICLE http://news.scotsman.com/scotland.cfm?id=451542004 USA SSDI EXPERT ADVICE: SOCIAL SECURITY SCOOP The Social Security Death Index (SSDI) is a database of deaths reported to the Social Security Administration (SSA). Social Security started in the 1930s, but the SSDI wasn't computerized until 1961--so the bulk of its entries are deaths occurring after that year. SSDI has other limitations: It lists only deaths the SSA found out about from beneficiaries' survivors, and it excludes people with certain occupations, such as railroad workers. The good news about SSDI is you can search it for free online. And once you've found someone in the SSDI, you can request his SS-5 Social Security application form from the SSA (visit http://www.ssa.gov/foia for instructions). Dear Friends and listers I have included another 22 webpages and updated the existing 6 webpages on the 52 War memorials, honour boards I have identified from from the Mackay District for Anzac Day. goto http://www.geocities.com/ghh_mackay/war_memorials/war_memorials.html This has been ongoing research on and off for the last ten years and results of collecting over 4000 pieces of documentation hundreds of hours research and trips to the War Memorial in Canberra as well as local research, so sorry for the delay in getting the information online :-). I would like to publish in book form one day when time and money allow. This is stage 1 of the project. Stage 2 is a biographical database on all those killed or died in all wars from the Mackay region which was started at the same time but yet to be published online but will be one day hopefully in the near future. I will update in the near future but if anyone can add to the list or provide any further information on the history of the memorials or those men not yet identified please email me.
