    3. Marlborough would be the nearest to Ogmore but Rockhampton would have a lot of information. I believe that if you died in Ogmore you would be buried there. It used to be a coal mining town, now a fishing village with limited facilities. 3. I think the nearest place to find any records relating to the town of Ogmore would be Rockhampton, and if they do not keep them, they should be able to tell you which town does. 1. John Richardson MCWILLIAM
    2. Jill Glover
    3. Hello everyone, I have some new info. about JOHN Richardson McWilliam, if anyone can help me with info.about him or his married life during his/their time in the Rockhampton area, I would be most appreciative. I didn't know when John arrived in Queensland, until I received his birth cert, this week, and it says 21 years in Queensland. So he must have arrived in 1853/4. He was in NSW around 1873/4. At the moment all I know is: John arrived in 1852 in Victoria, aged 14/15, with a Tutor. He was born in Co.Armagh, Ireland. He is said to have 'ditched' his tutor, told his father he wasn't coming home, and headed to the goldfields!! But the info. on his death cert. tells me that he came to Queensland almost immediately after arriving in OZ, that would be in 1853/4. Does anyone have any idea of what a young man/boy might do to survive in those days? I wonder if he went to school?? Were there any then? It's said that he was at Trinity College in Ireland, so he must have had potential. He was a man who got involved in the community, and was a journalist in Hill End, Mudgee and owned his own newspaper in Coonamble, NSW. His father was a Presbyterian minister, so he just might have been involved in that church in Rockhampton, or wherever else he might have been in Queensland. Would he have come to Queensland by ship in 1853/4? Somewhere, in ages past, I think I found him on the "London", going from Melbourne to Sydney, in 1854. But, I could be dreaming also. Then he might have sailed to Queensland? . Janet ORR married John Richardson MCWILLIAM. I am very interested in his life and times in R'Hampton. He was involved with the cricket and rowing in the 1860's. Also on the committee that built the first School of Arts. From a book, "The Early History of R'hampton", I gather he was also involved in retail shops, one called Messrs Younger and M'William, in Bolsover Street. Another might have been managed by a son, Mr. Thomas Moore William McWILLIAM, was with Messrs Walter Reid and Co., R'Hampton. Mr. John.Richardson McWILLIAM married Janet ORR at the Agricultural Reserve home of William ORR, in July 1866. The McWILLIAM family moved to NSW, around 1873/4, and the rest of the family were born there. Any help with anything todo with John Richardson McW. or Thomas Moore McWilliam would be gratefully received. Many thanks and best wishes, Jill .

    3. Mary and List ~ Mary, there is another cemetery in Mackay: it is called Mt Bassett. I didn't go there. I visited the Mackay Cemetery - the older one in West Mackay, on Cemetery Road. I don't have a list of people buried there. I would have offered to do look ups if I did. I was there looking up only "my" ancestors. I didn't take photos of any other graves. What I did do is take some "general" photos of the cemetery. By this I mean - no distinguishable graves...just a general impression of the cemetery. I went into Google for you and typed in "Mackay Cemetery" . They have email enquiries: mackaycc@mackay.qld.gov.au Maybe they will do a look up for you. I don't know. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Di Randell" <dirandell@optusnet.com.au> To: <AUS-NQ-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 16, 2004 8:37 AM Subject: [AUS-NQ] Mackay Cemetery > For anyone interested, I can scan a location map of Mackay Cemetery. 3. I am looking for records of the CARR family who arrived in Townsville on the 'Scottish Knight' on the 22nd July 1879 . The family consisted of James 28 and Mary Ann 23 (WHITE) CARR, their children Henry (5) and Jane 1. Patrick 27 and Elizabeth 24, brother and sister of James, travelled with them, having left London on on the 4th April 1879. The Carrs were from an Irish family from Donegal, who lived in Durham before emigrating to Australia. Thomas Richard b.1873, the eldest child of James and Mary Ann, remained with his grandparents in Tudhoe DUR. There is a photo of James' grave (1918) is in the West End cemetery online and Mary Ann (? 1933) is buried somewhere in Townsville as well. Jane died in 1880. There may have been more children than these ones found so far: Eleanor b.1881 Margaret b.1882 Mary Ann b.1884 d.1887 Maria b. 1886 Elizabeth b. 1895 ? Thomas 1 d. 1884 James' gravestone was erected by his son, James and daughers Nell and Liz. These CARRs may be related to John E.CARR who is also buried in Townsville. The CARRs were Catholics so there could be records in the Cathedral Archives. Best wishes from Mary, on behalf of Bill, grandson of Thomas Richard CARR .
