It usually comprises a small article of local interest, a family photograph, queries from researchers and information about forth-coming genealogy events, reunions, etc. The service is free and anyone may participate. Queries should be sent to me at the address below and in general should relate to the Otago and Dunedin area. Please write clearly and PRINT surnames in capital letters. Send clear photograph copies only. Black & white photocopies are not suitable for newspaper reproduction but laser copies are quite cheap and very satisfactory. Include SAE for a copy of the printed page, for return of photos and for any other information that may arise. If a contact phone number, e-mail, fax addresses and an offer to refund postage or phone costs is included, a reply is more likely to be forthcoming. A good percentage of success has been achieved. If you belong to a genealogy group you may wish to put this on the noticeboard. Mrs Shirley Hay 13 Beach St St Clair, Dunedin, 9001 New Zealand. e-mail: smhay@xtra.co.nz; fax: 03.455.2661. This site is an absolute brainwave, and has the potential to be one of the best websites around, and on all of our favourites along GENUKI. This site is basically a portal for freely available databases and records. Yes, a one stop site where you can search a multitude of database, with records from many different sources. The search mechanism is easy to use, I found it a little slow at times, but quick enough, and returning good results. The results come with a full explanation of source, which is fantastic. There is already a vast amount of records on the site, and it appears to be growing quickly. The site is extremely easy to navigate, and the design is very professional and pleasing on the eye. I was not asked for payment at any point (although of course there may be undiscovered parts that need payment!) This site is absolutely fantastic, and one of the best I have ever found. My advise is to visit straight away! From GENUKI Family History News UK http://www.british-genealogy.com/resources/census/index.htm This excellent page will be a help to all those beginning family history research in Britain. The site details censuses, and how they were taken, what information they held and how useful they will be to family research. There is information on registration districts, folios, and lots of other information that will be extremely useful. Easy to navigate and well designed this is a site, certainly when starting out, you should have bookmarked. An excellent research help. The following information was provided by Judy Webster. Queensland Health has just closed the Burketown Hospital admission register. It is expected that Croydon, Cooktown, Ingham and Muttaburra registers less than 100yrs old will also be closed. Please consider (as a matter of urgency) whether you want searches in post-1903 registers for any of those towns. Some registers have been indexed and the names are on my Web site. For other registers there is often an index at the front of the register. For more information see <www.judywebster.gil.com.au/hospital.html>.
Hello everyone, I'm asking if anyone has any immigration records for about 1861? I don't know where this family landed in Australia, quite likely Brisbane, they went to Rockhampton. They are William ORR and his wife Jane ORR, (nee Hunter).I have finally got the death cert. of William, in 1881, and it says he has been in the colonies for 20 years. I take it that it means in Australia, not just Queensland? The family came from Ayrshire, Scotland. All of these children could have been with them.I have these from the IGI and also their certs. The ages don't tally with those on the death cert though!! Jane ORR (F). B: 27 Oct 1834 Margaret ORR (F)..B: 15 Sep 1836 James ORR (M) C: 15 Dec 1838 Janet ORR (F) B: 21 Mar 1841 Thomas Hunter ORR (M) B: 13 Feb 1843 William ORR (M) B: 13 Feb 1843 These extras are from the death cert. of William, as are the above, but with different ages. George ORR (M) B 1860 Jessie ORR (F) B 1843 I know Janet ORR came, and I've read of William jnr and John being here.Janet married my g/g/g/f, John Richardson McWilliam. I would appreciate any help with links ideas for finding out their arrival place please. I've searched the NSW and Vic assisted and non-assisted lists without any luck. Many thanks and best wishes, Jill.

I have a third edition of Gregory's refidex dated 1967 and as late as that year Thompson Estate was still listed as a suburb. As a retired taxi driver I remember people still asking for that suburb as late as the eighties. My latest Gregory's (2004) still has Thompson Estate listed as a locality name and a park, Thompson Estate Reserve, still exists between Juliette and Ridge Streets. The area as such disappeared when the South-East Freeway was built. Regards, Howard Brisbane.
Hi everyone, I'm wondering in anyone has researched or has in their family line Thomas GULLIVER after whom the Townsville suburb of Gulliver was named for. I have an ancestor Sidney THICK who came to Townsville from Wiltshire in 1889 with his wife Catherine CUTLER. Sidney THICK's mother was Ann GULLIVER and I'm wondering if there is a connection. There are several Thomas GULLIVER's in this line. Annette, Townsville. See my Family History / Genealogy website: www.users.tpg.com.au/jag65/
