    3. Hi List, Would there be anyone on the list who would remember a story about a "hermit" named Moody who lived among the mangroves in the Cairns Estuary many years ago. My husband and I have been trying to remember about this man, we think there was a story in the papers about him and about the boat he was building, It could have been called Moody's Ark. I know this is a bit of a strange request but we have been in contact with Moody's in England and some of their rellies were in Cairns a long time ago. Any help would be so much appreciated. Thanking you Wayne Ann Moody

    3. Dear friends and acquaintances I have completed all 52 web pages for the former Mayors of Mackay finally after 7 years of research....there are still a couple I do not have information on so if anyone can help please drop me a line. The stories of these men and one woman make interesting reading into the history of Mackay and their contributions to the city and the district as a whole. Some made little impact some made decisions that can still be seen and appreciated today. Some are remembered , many have been forgotten so I hope this little effort will help in keeping this part of Mackay's history alive. Many thanks as well to various people who have emailed or sent me information over the years. I hope I have acknowledged everyone. for the webpage goto http://www.geocities.com/ghh_mackay/mayors/mayors.html Cheers from Glen Hall Research Officer Mackay Historical Society and Museum Inc. I have the school Centenary book (1977) and there is nothing in that, nor in the later one. I am also on the School Friends list. A letter to ''Cairns Post'' produced no results and the Q'ld State Archives cannot assist Cheers, Bob.

The Comprehensive History of Exeter An amazing opportunity for those with Exeter interests, this CD contains four histories of the city written from different times and perspectives. They span Exeter's history from its foundation to the 1800s when the last book was published. Titles included are, The Remarkable Antiquities of the City of Exeter 1049-1677 (Published 1741) Hoker's Description and Account of the City of Exeter. (published 1765) Civil and Ecclesiastical History of the City of Exeter (Published 1841) History of the City of Exeter (published 1861) White's History, Gazetteer and Directory of Norfolk, 1864 This directory, like other White's directories is incredibly comprehensive. Most important of all for family historians this book has hundreds of pages listing people in the county along with their address and profession. Harrod's Directory for Oxfordshire 1876 The directory lists people with their name, address and trade. It also gives interesting information about every village and town in the county. Three Oxfordshire Parishes; A History of Kidlington, Yarnton and Begbroke. Written in 1893 and printed for the Oxford Historical Society, this book gives the general history of these places with thought to their connection to National events. For each there are also pages of extracts from the Hundred Rolls. History of Watford Chapters cover the town's Saxon history, the Domesday book, Abbey Rolls, Peasants Rebellion, War of the Roses and other historic events as well as the traditions of the time and recollections of the past. Highways and Byways in Hertfordshire Written in 1902, it gives a tour around all of the towns and villages explaining their history, antiquities, churches and people. Fascinating reading and great background information for your family history. Circuit Journeys By the late Lord Cockburn Lord Cockburn, a Criminal Judge, as part of his work, rode around Scotland in "circuits", he began to note down cases of particular interest in diary form and this forms the basis of the CD. Coaching Days and Coaching Ways The author's intention was "to try to get glimpses of the social life which passed to and fro between London and the provinces…I shall show our ancestors of all ages in all kinds of costumes...busy at the nothings which make travelled life, eating, drinking, flirting, quarrelling, delivering up their purses, grumbling over their bills." The Old Engravers of England Malcolm C Salaman traces the art of copper plate engraving through the most interesting period of its history, from its introduction in the middle of the sixteenth century to its climax at the end of the eighteenth. The Registers Of Ulverston Parish Church 1545-1812 A transcript of the parish baptism, marriage and burial registers. Fully indexed. A huge book of over 800 pages. Archive CD Books homepage - http://www.archivecdbooks.com WEBPAGE REVIEWS http://www.harrold.biz/ This site contains the genealogy of the Harrold family of Dursley in Gloucestershire. It is notable for two reasons – there is a good amount of family tree information if this family happens to link in to yours, and there is a good amount of information on Dursely and its surrounds, including a brief history of the town and parish maps. There is a brief outline of the development of the name Harrold as well on the site. This site is ruined in many ways by the double frames, in fact the pages are framed three ways, to the left, right and top, restricting the viewing space considerably, which is a real shame. It could do with a redesign, but holds some good content. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jeffery.knaggs/AlmondsLane.html A really nice site if you have ancestors in Stevenage that you are trying to trace, this site contains the Monumental Inscriptions of the Almonds Lane Cemetary. Many of the inscriptions are quite modern, but there are plenty from a little earlier, and the main thing I liked about this site was the layout, it is a good way to show Monumental Inscriptions on the web. There is a plan of the cemetery at the top. It could have doen with an index, but that would be quite a task, but even without the index it is a good site, and plenty of useful information. http://www.great-harwood.org.uk/genealogy/index.htm A great site containing many genealogical resources and guides for Great Harwood in Lancashire. On this site I found lots of family information, large files of census information. A history of the area, and its buildings and industries is also fascinating. This really is a great site and contains a lot of information that will be of help to researchers, or people wanting a background on the area. Nicely designed and extremely easy to move around this site will help many people, and is another great collections of actual records online. It could do with some development – I would like to see Parish register entries, directory information and monumental inscriptions on there too, but not withstanding, it is already a great site. He m. lst a Miss Swanton and had 2 children: Thomas, b. March 1812, and Katherine-of whom I know nothing. John's wife died and he m. 2nd Nancy Capithorn JOHNSON. Their children were: Elizabeth b. 1820 m. Wm. Connell, 1841 in Lake Genesee, NY. John, 1822-1878 Samuel 1823-1909 Richard, 1826-1881 Peter 1831 - Frank 1835- and Phyllis Jane b. 1839. All b. Co. Cork. By 1850, Thomas is in Dodge Co. WI and Nancy and all her children are in Washington Co., WI. Would like any info on John DUKELOW, his 1st wife, and his parents. Thomas was the only one whose surname gradually changed to DUCKLOW. educklow@pressenter.com My problem is about a George Myers who married my grandma - Sarah Heath in 1900 and on the first of April, their son John Thomas Myers was born in 1901. In 1904 Sarah was living with a Thomas Ford who she later married in 1913 and had the first of seven children to him in 1905. Sarah was born in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, George was born in Normanton,Yorkshire. In 1881 census George and Sarah are at her parents house in West Bromwich, their son was born at 13, Golds Green West Bromwich. I am unable to find any trace as to what became of George and his son John Thomas Myers after John Thomas's birth. Rumours in my family seem to think that George emigrated to Australia but as I don't know the names of any ships or even the year he may have emigrated, that's if he did, what would be my next step to try and find out what happened to him? cnewbould@btinternet.com I wonder if anyone could help me trace my Grandfather John William Robinson.I have him on the 1901 census married to Mary Ann Hird, with a family and living in Wheatley Hill County Durham. He was born in Cramlington Northumberland in 1863 and married I believe in Easington in March 1886.I would love some help to trace this elusive member on the 1881 census. Thanking you Regards David Musgrave dmusgrave7@yahoo.com.au I have a marriage certificate for William LAVIS & Jane TALL (both of "full age"), at Plympton St Mary Parish Church on 7th September 1845, after Banns. My problem is that I cannot make out the surname of William's father - it is not LAVIS, but looks like Lympetry or something similar. Looking at a L*mp* printout from the DFHS, the nearest name is probably Lympany. His first name is Thomas and he was an Excise Officer. The 1851 census suggests that William was born in Devonport about 1807. William Lavis enlisted in the Royal Marines in 1824, aged 19, at Exexter. The Stoke Damerel baptisms, courtesy of the OPC, show : 11 May 1806 William, son of Thomas & Mary LYMPANY (?) born 10 Feb 1806. The difference in Thomas' & William's surnames suggests that Thomas may have died, his wife re- married (to a Lavis) and William adopted his mother's new husband's surname. My query is: Do the baptism, enlistment and marriage certificate all relate to the same William, and how can I prove it?
