Hi Christine and Roberta Good hunting Christine to find that - there were only 462 COLEMAN surnames on the CD!! (with 84 deaths) Roberta, would they have been siblings or possibly cousins? Actually, there is a mistake with Dorothea Hazel - her birth was registered in 1906, 3 years before she was born in 1909. Pretty good 'forecasting' there. I would hazard a guess to say that Dorothea was actually born 02-Jul-1906 not 1909 as on the CD. Poor little John died the day he was born...7Dec1909. Would have been hard on the mother - to lose another child on the anniversary of losing the two girls. Elliott Coleman and Elizabeth Ann Read had the following children: Elsie Elizabeth Coleman b 18 Apr 1892 Louis William Real Coleman b 29 Dec 1893 Vida Margaret Coleman b 16 Oct 1895 Helena Alice Coleman b 11 July 1897 Isabella Coleman b 18 Oct 1899 Elizabeth Coleman b 5 Oct 1901 Dorothea Hazel Coleman b 2 July 1901 John Coleman b 7 Dec 1909 Two of these children, Elsie Elizabeth and Vida Margaret died on the 7 Dec 1898 and their Rego numbers are 002214 and 002215. Their son John died on 7 Dec 1909(same date different year) Looking at the births I think someone has entered John born wrong and it should read 7 Dec 1898 and not 12 July as there is not enough time between Dorothea and John birth. (only 5 months). Under Tolsen/Tolson/Tulsen/Tulson I could find only one death between 1890 - 1914. Where do you live? Maybe someone can look up electoral rolls for the early 1900 to see what family were in the district. Don't you just love a mystery. Chris

I know that you will not have received 178 that is still stuck on my, as yet unpacked, home PC. I will resend as soon as possible. But I thought in the meantime I would get a small interim GENUKI Family History News out for you. So here goes News from the Hampshire Genealogical Society Celebrating it's 30th anniversary this year, the HGS held a very successful open day on 26 September - well attended with one visitor travelling specifically from Spain to attend! The Society is pleased to announce that Judy Kimber is the new President of the Society. It is fitting that Judy is the first HGS member to be appointed as all previous appointments were from outside the membership. Judy has been a member of the HGS since 1978 and was appointed Membership Secretary in 1979. We look forward to an exciting next two years under her stewardship. The other important appointment is that of Len Ruffle as Chairman. Len is another HGS stalwart and will be an able replacement for Ron Hall who steps down after 5 years. Our thanks and best wishes go to Ron for his extremely hard work on behalf of the HGS I received this press release this week: Do you know anyone who has recently discovered a new family member? I work for a leading television company and am looking for surprising family ties stories for a documentary to be broadcast on a UK network channel. I would be interested to hear about any personal experiences of searching for estranged relatives who turn out to be unexpectedly different than anticipated. For example, the search for a birth parent which opens new cultural, religious or political doors in the life of the individual. They cover over 48,000 baptisms, 15,000 marriages and 33,000 burials. Also, by the end of October, they will have completed the conversion of all published Monumental Inscription data from 36 Calderdale graveyards onto a fully searchable & indexed database. This will contain over 16,000 inscriptions each with a wealth of detail about the relevant families. 31 of the 36 graveyards are already loaded & available now. Archive CD Books homepage - http://www.archivecdbooks.com WEBPAGE REVIEWS http://tassellone.orcon.net.nz/ A nice little website with some information on the Tassell surname. Its a bit of a shame there is not more information, as the site really needs expanding a bit. At the moment on the website there is a basic introduction to the name, and two indexes to look at entries in the Vicar General Marriage Index and Tassell wills and probate. Both of these are on line and are very easy to search, but it would be a lot nicer if there were more indexes. Quick to load and easy to lok at this is a good basic site. http://www.buckscc.gov.uk/bucks_prisoners/index.htm I loved this site, but mainly because I found an ancestor in it! My own family history aside this site provides a quick, and easily searchable database of prisoners at Aylesbury Gaol . The database contains names of prisoners entering the jail in the 1870s and if you are lucky (I was) there will be a photograph as well. Imagine seeing the prison photograph of one of your ancestors! It also give the sentence, birth place, crime (Stealing a Shirt!) and sometimes more information. You can search by first name, surname, place of birth or residence, so all those doing local histories in Bucks can find there notorious criminals! An excellent site! Well worth a visit. http://www.victorianlondon.org/ This is a great site, with lots of information about Victorian London. From descriptions of people and places to clothing and fashions, you can find out lots and lots about the way your ancestors lived on this site. It has a slightly frustrating layout, but is easy to move around, and is absolutely full of incredibly interesting historical information. This is the place to go if your ancestors came from London in the Victorian age. READERS QUERIES This is a query about a Mr. Stewart Leak. Born in Britain June1946. Hello from Melbourne. My Grand Aunt Mary Catherine BAILEY (1874 to 1936) married Frederick GARDNER on 10 JUN 1895,at Gladstone. Is anyone reseaching these lines, I'd like to hear from you? Cheers, Bob.
I am having a little trouble finding a couple of names of two families buried on a property near us in north Queensland, although I know the sad stories that go with the graves. Could any one help or make suggestions on what to do. . I have no idea what year. Local hearsay, on both graves, said it was late 1890's but I have looked through BDM to the late 1940's and nothing seems to be blaringly obvious to me, 1. Coleman - 5 or 6 children ate treacle that had poison added to it to kill the rats. Only one child survived. I thought as there were five at least the name of parents would be easy to pick up. 2. Tolsen (Tulson ?) - 2 or 3 children died. Their mother was making bread and the children got some dough and mixed oleander tree sap with the dough. If any one is able help or point me in the right direction I would be very appreciative. Thanking you in anticipation Roberta

Western Australia Post Office Directory 1905 The 1905 edition of Wise's Western Australia Post Office Directory is divided into three main sections: Towns, Alphabetical and Trades and Professions Archive CD Books homepage - http://www.archivecdbooks.com WEBPAGE REVIEWS http://mywebpage.netscape.com/margotsdream/Poppelwell.htm A nice little website dealing with the descendants of William Poplewell of Whitby in North Yorkshire. What I particularly liked about this website was the very good use of graphics, and pictures to illustrate this simple family tree. There is also a lot of live information about each generation, rather than just the dry dates of birth, marriage and death. It is nicely laid out, although maybe the page could have been split a bit to ease navigation. You will find more information about certain members of the family at the bottom of the page, which expands with stories about people and places. A nice website http://www.heraldry-scotland.co.uk/Homepage.htm This is the website of the Heraldry Society of Scotland and is absolutely packed with loads of interesting, and at times extremely useful information about Heraldry in Scotland, and about the Society in particular. If you have an interested in Heraldry, and an interest in Scotland then this site will be fantastic for you. It gives and introduction into heraldry, and into where to find more information. Extremely well organised and nicely designed I found this website fascinating, and really pleasurable to browse. http://www.geocities.com/clanpeacock/ This website, calling itself Clan Peacock, is in reality a family history of the Peacock name in Scotland. Where it differs from a lot of websites pertaining to a single family is that there are a lot of resources on this site for the Peacock name in general. On the site I found indexes to Scottish Peacock Births, Deaths and marriages, as well as information on all sorts of people, from murderers to law abiding citizens! It is a nice website, easy to move around and containing some very useful information, my only quibble is the blue of the background which could make the text hard to read in places CERTIFICATES No Certificates this week, I will catch up with these in the next few weeks, but please note, from now the address to send certificates to is Rob Thompson, GFHN, 6 Sinclair Road, Shurdington, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, GL51 4SG Hopefully this will remain the same for some time! Mail from Chelmsford is being redirected so dont panic if you have sent something there! READERS QUERIES I am looking for anybody who knows anything about my late mother-in-law DORIS MAY BROWN, born in Effingham [we think] Surrey, on 20/21 AUGUST 1920. She was always very guarded about her past. I know she had a mother who died when she was about 7 yrs old and only learned after her mothers death of her 2 older brothers KENNETH and ALFRED, who we believe joined the army and nursing professions respectively. There is no mention of the father. She also appears to have been close to an Aunt, affectionately referred to as 'Ninky' who we believe to be her mothers sister. She appears to have had a privileged upbringing receiving swimming and tennis lessons at Hampton Court. She trained and briefly became a nurse, she married several times: Husband No 1 was a DAVIES [welsh] married on or around 1939/40/41 whom we believe was a professional soldier there was one son from this marriage called Melvin John DAVIES born on 2 November 1941. Husband 2 was a FREDERICK FEIST [my husband's father] and from this point on we know where she was. Any help, no matter how small would be much appreciated. SO I thank you in anticipation. GLYNIS FEIST volunteersupport@btclick.com I'm brickwalled by my G-Grandparents. Their marriage certificate gives the following information: Married in St. Barnabas' church, parish of St. Luke, Registration District of Holborn, Middlesex, July 16th 1871: William Michael Canny, of full age and Rebecca Bowers Blake, minor. With no ages, I haven't yet been able to trace their birth details, using Familysearch and FreeBMD although it seems clear that Rebecca must have been born between 1850 and 1855 neither appear yet on either site. Short of travelling to the Family Records Centre (not easy) and searching through all the Birth Indexes one by one until I find them, is there any other avenue I might try? Mike Canny mike.canny@ntlworld.com I am looking for information on my gggrandmother Margaret Jones born in 1832-1833 in Towyn, Wales Also born in Llangelynin, Merioneth Wales. Which one is right I do not know She married John Owen in 1857 in Towyn, they had a son William E Owen. My infor is Margaret died in 1872 in Dolgellau District, Merioneth Wales. My repeatedly requests to Glamorgan readers has not been answered. Do not know when or why of her death. All I know is on the 1881 census John Owen has a new wife, Ann from Llanabar. That is all the infor I have. Margarets parents were Edward and Ann Jones. On the 1841census Merioneth, Parish Towyn township Cefuehos chaf Esgrggjele the family was there, sorry about the spelling. Hello everyone, Thanks to a lot of help from so many kind people, I have just about sorted out my ORR family. I bought Jane ORR's death cert., she died in 1908 in Vic. I now have most of the family's marriage and death dates, but would like help with a couple more please, if possible? Marriage or Death of John ORR, b. 1845, Scotland. parents William ORR and Jane HUNTER. He was in Rockhampton in the late 1800's, a member of the Gogango Divisional Board, and owner of the property, Ayrshire Park, just outside Rockhampton.I don't think he moved to Vic, where most of his siblings were. The other query concerns the records below. It seems the Jeannie Hunter G married John Henry GRAY, and then must have remarried ??TELFORD. Would someone please have a look for me for the marriage to Telford of Jeannie, in Vic. I should think. She was born 1834, Ayrshire Scotland, parents William ORR and Jane HUNTER.
