It has different boards where you can post your queries request help for your lookups, has a program where you can upload your tree, also a gallery where you can put picture's of family past and present. There is also a chat room where you can have good fun or ask question, and there is always moderator's or the site owners on hand to help with any problems or questions you may have relating to the site. ENG http://www.law.harvard.edu/library/collections/special/collections/manuscrip ts/deeds/ For those of you who may not know there is a collection of English deeds housed at Harvard Law School here in the U.S. There are descriptions of each deed, including all names contained therein: Some of the deeds are for land in America, but many of them are for land in England. They go back to the 1300's and up to the late 1700's . There is a small search term entry box on the left-hand side at the bottom of the screen. If you make sure that "HLS website" is clicked, it will search the deeds. ENG http://www.royalist.info/ I suspect this site will help very few peoples genealogy, but it is quite fun and very informative. It is a database of persons connected in some way to the British Royal Family, from early medieval times to the present day. Each entry gives details of mother and father, and any offspring. A useful site for students, for most of us it will just be a matter of interest, although my favourite information in there was the 'inbreeding factor' where the compilers have attempted to define just how inbred a character was, it becomes quite fun to find entrants with a high inbred factor - common in any royal family. Researchers can still search the database in its entirety or can concentrate on the holdings of a single repository. An improved online form is available for use by contributors. I am not 100% sure I have overcome the gremlins, but I hope so!! Tomorrow morning I am off on business again, and am away for two weeks. I hope I will get a newsletter out next week, though I cant guarantee it because of where I am!! (Next Saturday is Belize!!) In the meantime, please bear with me with a delay in answering emails, they are there, but it has been a hectic week. I am hoping now that in the next few weeks I will be able to catch up with a few! But here goes for this weeks news I received this email recently, it may be of interest to you: I am currently working on a TV programme about churches and churchyards and am interested in finding people with great stories about their relatives buried in these churches. We are also interested in people who have had a real search to find where a relative is buried or have discovered in the process of researching their family tree that they are related to someone important or remembered in some way in a church. Do you think this is something your readers might be interested in? If so would you be able to mention it in your magazine? I don't know when your next issue is due out but we have set up a website address especially for this purpose. It is favourite.churches@bbc.co.uk. What I particularly liked about this website was the very good use of graphics, and pictures to illustrate this simple family tree. There is also a lot of live information about each generation, rather than just the dry dates of birth, marriage and death. It is nicely laid out, although maybe the page could have been split a bit to ease navigation. You will find more information about certain members of the family at the bottom of the page, which expands with stories about people and places. A nice website http://www.heraldry-scotland.co.uk/Homepage.htm This is the website of the Heraldry Society of Scotland and is absolutely packed with loads of interesting, and at times extremely useful information about Heraldry in Scotland, and about the Society in particular. If you have an interested in Heraldry, and an interest in Scotland then this site will be fantastic for you. It gives and introduction into heraldry, and into where to find more information. Extremely well organised and nicely designed I found this website fascinating, and really pleasurable to browse. http://www.victorianlondon.org/ This is a great site, with lots of information about Victorian London. From descriptions of people and places to clothing and fashions, you can find out lots and lots about the way your ancestors lived on this site. It has a slightly frustrating layout, but is easy to move around, and is absolutely full of incredibly interesting historical information. Reposting a message sent in July. It may have slipped through the list in a Rootsweb outage or might now catch the eye of a recent subscriber. We live in hope! Dear List Members, We received great assistance from Werona Armstrong, Jan Barber annd Carolyn Campbell earlier this year which provided the news (to us!) that Oxford UK born Arthur EARL married Mary Catherine CAMPBELL in NQ in 1885. Arthur would have married at around the age of 31. He was in Oxford at the time of the 1871 British Census, but not, apparently, in 1881. We're coming back again to see if anyone can kindly pinpoint how and when Arthur EARL arrived in Australia. Any search hints would be very much appreciated. If anyone out there would like us to do some reciprocal research in Plymouth UK, we'd be glad to try to help. And we have CD and microfiche info sources for Oxford UK that we can search. Regards, Rosie and Chris Plymouth, Devon UK

ENG NETWORKING IN THE UK The UK genealogy data site formerly known as Origins.net has given itself a new name, Origins Network http://www.originsnetwork.com/ . to accompany its broader coverage and its switch to a subscription payment system. Webmasters dubbed their English records collection British Origins and plan to add non-English records such as the 1871 census of Glamorgan, Wales. The Irish and Scottish collections also contain new databases. The free Origins Search, a genealogy-specific search engine that previously found Irish Web sites, will now find English and Scottish sites for you, too. A subscription service has replaced the Origins Network's credit system, in which a user "spent" pre-purchased credits each time he viewed a record. The cost for access to all collections ranges from 7.5 pounds for three days to 34.5 pound per year; you also can purchase separate subscriptions to the British, Irish or Scottish collection. You'll have to stay on top of things, though: Unless you cancel your account, your subscription automatically renews when it ends. Rob GENUKI FAMILY HISTORY NEWS No 178 12 September 2004 Hi Everyone and welcome to this weeks GENUKI Family History News. I hope there is plenty for you in this weeks news. Next week I might try to put out a couple of small newsletters, but there wont be a big one next weekend I am moving again, and in fact will be without home internet access until the beginning of October. So I will try to get them out, but cant promise a full newsletter every week! We will be back in full swing by the first weekend in October, if not before. So first for some news!! A request for information from a One Name Study --- I am doing a one name study on PURDELL or its derivates (two of which that have already come to light are PURDLE and PUDDLE). I have published on several lists with the only response being one from USA and I have also used the electoral roll, sent out several letters and received no response. Any help/information would be appreciated. Phil Marston Amesbury (Nr Stonehenge) Wiltshire joyphil@ntlworld.com A New mailing list "BRITISH-HATTERS. North West Kent FHS have joined The Parish Chest Online Shop (www.parishchest.com) And any readers have any ideas or recommendations for the following?: I wondered whether you or any of the other subscribers could recommend someone who can print off large scale family trees. I use Family Tree Maker and the tree is now 300cm by 30 cm and I get fed up with sticking A4 sheets together! Also if there is a low cost hardware solution - a wide carriage black and white printer that used banner paper or continuous paper would be good. Bryan [bryanp@onetel.com] The Society of Genealogists is holding an Open Day (details below) This is one of the best times to go and have a look around the Society and see if it will be useful to you: Monday 20 September, 11am - 4pm. The Society will be opening its doors to members and non-members alike for an Open Day. Staff and volunteers will be offering a full guided tour of the Library's three floors throughout the day. The last tour will be at 3.30pm. If you wish to bring a large party of people, please let the Society know in advance, otherwise notice of your intended visit is not requested. The Society has some 100,000 family history items on its shelves, much of this open access. Material includes that relating to 10,000 out of the 13,000 parishes in the country. Staff and volunteers can offer tours at various times throughout the year. If you are curious about the Society's collections, we hope to see you at an Open Day soon! NEW BOOKS AND CDs From Your Old Books and Maps: *Bulmers 1901 History, Gazetteer & Directory of Cumberland.* "In its arrangement the New Parliamentary Divisions have been adopted instead of the old and nearly obsolete Wards; and the parishes in each have been arranged in alphabetical sequencewith the exception of Carlisle, the largest and most important town, which has been placed last. A copious index will still further facilitate reference." THE history of the Endowed Schools and Statistics of Charities of the county of Stafford 1860.* The Endowed Schools in Staffordshire number about ninety, and the charity gifts and endowments are innumerable, occupying in their records simply, no less than 870 folio pages of the Charity Commissioners Reports. The History and Statistics of these Endowments are very little known, and even where known, very seldom considered, further than a mere perusal by interested parties. To bring them in a familiar form before the public of Staffordshire, with the hope of restitution or renovation where abused, and of improvement where neglected, is the object of the author and compiler. In the present day, when steam in its various waystelegraphs and a cheap pressare producing such astounding results, the benefits of a sound and improved education are imperatively necessary. It is a database of persons connected in some way to the British Royal Family, from early medieval times to the present day. Each entry gives details of mother and father, and any offspring. A useful site for students, for most of us it will just be a matter of interest, although my favourite information in there was the inbreeding factor where the compilers have attempted to define just how inbred a character was, it becomes quite fun to find entrants with a high inbred factor common in any royal family. Good fun, quite informative and extremely easy to browse http://www.ex.ac.uk/cornishlatin/index.php This ranks alongside some of my other weird and wonderful websites that I have found. I have covered the Irish and the Welsh in Latin America, and now I have found a website dedicated to the Cornish in Latin America. Migration occurred for similar reasons to the Welsh and Irish , and mainly due to economic necessity. The Cornish were expert miners, with long family traditions of mining, and the mines in Latin America attracted them once the mines in Cornwall were being run down and closed. This site is very interesting and well worth a browse particularly if you have Cornish ancestry. You never know where you might find that lost link! http://www.genesearch.com/newyork/ Did your ancestors emigrate from Europe and settle in the US? Do you have branches of your family that disappear from the UK, or Europe, and you think they appear in the USA sometime later but cant make the connection? This website might then be very useful to you as a finding aid. It is a very simple website detailing where to find passenger lists and records from 1820 to 1957. Simple, with a front page, and links to more detailed information about who has records this is a great little website and well worth keeping a note of. No actual records but a very useful finding aid. Florrie and Edith. I found him in the 1881 census when he was living in Ogleforth, this is a street behind York Minster, he was named as an employer in the 1901 census. I believe his father was Richard Potter also a master bookbinder of Ogleforth. would appreciate any help tracing this family. Sybil Coulson sybil.coulson@ntlworld.com My Greatgrandfather William Gabbey married Mary Jane McCullough 12 July 1884 in the Parish of Newtownards, County Down Northern Ireland her Father was William McCullough a labourer, they married in teh Struan Church. So far I have been unable to trace Mary Jane's parents or any other relatives. William Gabbey's Father was called Hugh Gabbey and was a Labourer. I have found my grandfather and his decendants, and would love to contact my great grandmother's relatives to help complete the family tree. Joan Lawson Stroma View Kirkstyle Road Canisbay Wick Caithness KW1 4YH Scotland <e-mail: joan.lawson@ukf.net> I am searching for information regarding an Ebenezer Pentyre HORSWILL. He was my great grandfather, born around 1846 in Plymouth, Devon. He Married Emma Crocker around 1867 and they had seven children, all born in Plymouth. His occupation was that of a mason. I have found him in all censuses from 1851 to 1881. In the 1891 census, his oldest son, Edward is listed as the head of the household, and Ebenezer's wife is recorded as being married, but Ebenezer is not there. In 1901, his wife is listed as the head of the family and married, but Ebenezer is still not there. Ebenezer died in 1934 in Plymouth there is no family member listed on his death certificate. I am searching for some information about his life from 1881 forward. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Hi everyone, I'm researching a Frank NORMAN (b.1865 France - par: Christopher & Lore? Norman/Normann/Normane?) who married Jessie Crichton (b.1863 Fife, Scot) in Charters Towers, Qld 1892. Frank Norman states his residence at time of marriage as Townsville, & Jessie Crichton 'Upper Capse?, Charters Towers'. On the marriage certificate Jessie's parents are listed as George Crichton & Jane Law. Witnesses were: George & Lucy Jackson. Anyone have this couple in their tree? :) I have scoured the internet and cannot find anyone researching this family. The only entry regarding this couple is listed on the LDS site. Whoever submitted this file has Jessie listed as 'Jessie Creighton Hume' and that they were married in Sydney, which of course they weren't. :) However, the 'Creighton Hume' combo is interesting. Of course, we'll contact the LDS to see if we can find any further leads. Frank & Jessie Norman had one child 'Frederick George Norman' b.1893 Gladstone, Qld. There is a possibility of another boy. Jessie & and her son Frederick moved to the US possibly between 1901 & 1910. They died in Iowa. What happened to husband Frank is unknown. If someone has access to the Qld indexes, could I please ask for a lookup for children born to Frank & Jessie Norman from 1892 to 1900. I can return the favour with Vic BDM's if needed. It is not know if Frank Norman or Jessie Crichton arrived in Qld with or without their parents. I've checked the NSW & Vic shipping records, and cannot find them listed. Of course they probably entered via Brisbane or Maryborough. Is anyone researching a french Norman family in Townsville or surrounding areas? Kind regards, Sherrie. Sydney, NSW.
