    3. Good Morning List, This is my first posting to the list, I am hoping to make contact with some one with connections to this family. Charles and Elizabeth Garrett (nee Suter) together with children Walter 6 yrs, Charles 4 yrs, Fanny Eliza 2 yrs and Elizabeth an infant arrived at Townsville 23 January, 1877 aboard the "Scottish Knight". Walter married Emma Miller 1893, Fanny married John Sidey 1891. I do not know anything about Charles. Elizabeth died later in 1877. A further three children were born in Queensland, all died at an early age. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards Sherene Tregellas Northern NSW

IRL http://www.resi.ie/library Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Within the webpage of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, in the area dealing with the library, there is a section on the Rare Books and Archives. This is very much a work in progress, but in time it is planned to have the main archival collections of the RCSI listed there. The starting point to discovering the archival holdings of an institution, and the whereabouts of the records of various institutions, is the Directory of Irish Archives, edited by Helfrey and Refausse, now in its third edition since 1999. Relevant entries for tracing medical ancestors here are the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, the Apothecaries' Hall and the National University of Ireland, which holds the records of the former Queen's College. The matter of where the person obtained their medical qualifications, and the qualification itself must be first established. The number of Irish doctors attending the Royal College of surgeons of Edinburgh in the 1700s and the 1800s is something of a demographic phenomenon. 3. Hi all Sorry for cross posting! This is a reminder that I have continued transcribing (maybe the word is 'coping' as I include the web site that only holds the notice for 7 days) and posting to several different Qld list (never duplicating) as I know that rootsweb has archived them. As usual quite a bit to let you know about! NEW BOOKS AND CD’s The Historical Families Of Dumfriesshire & The Border Wars 1889. Preface: In a previous edition, I alluded too briefly to the important Border war of the reigns of Robert Bruce and Edward I., but as the three claimants to the Scottish throne possessed lands in Dumfriesshire, who naturally took much share in it, I have added a Chapter on the subject. In describing the different families celebrated in past ages, I have given greater prominence to those whose history has never been published before, and who are still represented in the legitimate male line. Owing to the custom of the sons of heiresses inheriting their mother's name, and of lands being rarely entailed exclusively on male heirs, it is a very unusual circumstance to find two branches of one family claiming unbroken male descent from the 15th century, as is the case with the Johnstones, who numbered nine lairds (more than any other house in Dumfriesshire), in 1581, and a tenth laird in Lanarkshire. Family details help to illustrate the manners of a period, and assist in elucidating some obscure points of national history. Old Historical Books on CD. Full transcriptions are provided. OK, there are not that many on the site at the moment, but you never know how the site will grow, and in the meantime it deserves our support. Easy to navigate, and the information is provided in an easily understandable format, this is a great little site, and there are not enough sites with probate information on them! Well indexed, the only reservation I have is that some of the fonts I found were small, and could be a problem for some people. http://www.iahs.org.uk/ Web site of the Islington Archaeology and History Society. Lots of detail about the history of Islington as well as general details about the Society and it’s events. I found the history if Islington section very informative indeed . There were also lots of pictures of historical places in Islington, including Lenin’s house! If you have family roots in the Islington area of London, and lots of us do, this site will be very useful to you, and probably very interesting too. They married in Abbington Piggots, Cambridgeshire, England. The name Warboys changed over the years to Worboys, but they all came from the Cambridge and Hertfordshire areas. I wonder if you have others over the years researching this name? I would love to hear from you if you have please. Best wishes. ENG WWI www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk Families of British and Commonwealth soldiers who fought in the First World War will be able to trace their relatives' war records through a website launched November 8, 2004. The National Archives site (www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk) lists the records of more than five million men and women of the army and Royal Flying Corps who won service medals during the war. Members of the Royal Navy are not included. Anyone who served in the war received at least one campaign medal. Officials said the website index provided the most comprehensive list of First World War military service. National Archives military historian William Spencer said medal records were useful for family history research, often providing the only account of a soldier's wartime service as many other records were destroyed by bombing during the Second World War. "More people than ever are researching their family history and most want to start online," Spencer said. Searching the index is free. SCT MLN http://www.bonnyrigglasswadehistory.org.uk/contactus.htm Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Local History Society: SURNAMES http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CampbellsAustralia Campbell's in Australia is a Forum and Network for those who are seeking genealogical and family tree information about the Campbell surname in Australia/New Zealand and their ties and roots to the surname "Campbell" USA ELLIS ISLAND The Ellis Island Web site (http://www.ellisisland.org), home to a free database of 22 million Ellis Island passenger records, has relaunched with a more efficient ancestor search. When the database debuted in April 2001, researchers logged on to the tune of 10 million hits per day. The site's remained popular, though genealogists have noted problems catching variations of their ancestors' names. And some researchers have felt hamstrung by the site's first name/last name/gender search: They could narrow results by characteristics such as ship name and port of origin, but couldn't search on those terms. Ellis Island's new refined search--still in test phase--lets you frame your query around what you actually know about your relative, and effectively narrow or broaden your results. The search offers 11 data fields: * first name (you can enter parts of a name) * last name ("sounds like" and "alternate spellings" options help catch variations) * gender * marital status * approximate year of birth * year range (expands range for year of birth) * approximate year of arrival * year range (expands range for year of arrival) * town or village of origin * name of passenger ship * ethnicity Spelling variations are easier to find, but they won't disappear. Transcribers copied passenger names as they appeared on ships' lists. To preserve the integrity of those historical records, site administrators don't alter correctly transcribed names in the database. But if you believe you've found a transcription error, you can notify Ellis Island staff via an e-mail link on the Passenger Record page. The relaunched Ellis Island Web site also features other improvements, including streamlined navigation; the Genealogy Learning Center; the Ellis Island Society Links Network to connect site visitors with societies specializing in their research areas; and new Ellis Island histories, old photos, famous passenger information and visitor information New Zealand Society of Genealogists – Hamilton Branch http://www.nzsghamilton.co.nz Contact address for subscribing to nzsghamilton news nzsghamiltonnews@ihug.co.nz Bryan A Curran Hamilton, New Zealand

    3. In trying to fill out missing details on my wife's ancestry I am seeking connections to, or details about, Samuel ANDERSON and his wife, Anne Marie(a), nee HARBECK, who died, and are believed to buried, at Atherton. Both died in the early 1930s. It is believed that they came to this area around 1917. Samuel was the son of James ANDERSON and Jane FELLOWS (one source claims his mother's maiden name was MENZIES but this is unsubstantiated) around 1848 in the Kalkallo area of Victoria (near Tullamarine, the airport) and Maria was the daughter of Hans (or John) HARBECK and Margaret HOLSCHIER and was born at Richmond, Victoria in 1858. Assistance in finding descendants or relatives of this couple would be greatly appreciated as would any details of their lives in this area and/or death/burial details. the older of the tworobbos at Bairnsdale, Victoria
