    3. My ggf Robert Lapthorn married Ellen Buckley in Townsville 3 May 1898. Their marriage certificate gives her parents as John Buckley and Johanna Grace, and her birthplace as Tipperary, Ireland. One of the witnesses at the wedding was Maggie Buckley. I have yet to locate Ellen's resting place, although I presume it to be Townsville, where Robert was buried in 1939. Their son Robert Walter Lapthorn married Beatrice Maud West in Townsville 17 Oct 1925. Their marriage certificate gives her parents as Frederick Werner West and Elizabeth Mitchell, and her death certificate (1943) gives her birthplace as Charters Towers circa 1903, but a search from 1901 - 1905 has failed to uncover any birth registration. Frederick Werner West is recorded on a number of certificates as a photographer, although I have yet to discover any of his work. 1. John Drysdale
    2. Lindsay Jones
    3. The Sydney Daily Telegraph of Thursday 27 July published a very good article on John Drysdale in their history page. His family was responsible for setting up and managing the Pioneer Sugar mill as well as several other mills in NQ. John Drysdale was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland in 1847 and died in Sydney on 12 May 1928. He was a prominent person in the Ayr and Burdekin area of NQ. If anyone is researching this family and would like a copy I would be happy to photocopy and send to you. 1. WALKER family
    2. antoinette
    3. Hullo, Would anyone be able to help me trace a WALKER family in Queensland between at least 1871 and the parents' deaths in 1888? Mary Hannah WALKER nee Kinnersley died 18 August 1888; Benjamin WALKER, her husband, died 15 February 1888. Two of their children predeceased them, Annie Charlotte in February 1881 and Benjamin Robert in December 1884. One son, Alfred, spent over 20 years in various State armies (2 trips to South Africa, Boer War, with the Tasmanians) before coming to New Zealand about 1907 with his second wife, Elizabeth BYRNE, and their 4 surviving children. I do know that one son, James Thomas WALKER, died somewhere in Queensland on 10 August 1924. Any clues to as whether he was married or had offspring or where he died? There are two other children, Mary Hannah, born May 1874, and Edmund Francis born June 1880. I have no idea what happened to them. Anoher son, Henry Vincent appears to have come to New Zealand about 1920 or so and settled. If anyone could help, this would be much appreciated. What knowledge I have was garnered on a very quick visit to the National Library in Wellington but it is highly unlikely that I will get back for a couple of years. Eventually I hope to send for the death certs. for at least the WALKER parents. Any suggestions how one can easily send money from NZ to Australia without too many problems? Thanks for reading this. Hope to hear and good hunting! Antoinette

    3. Hi Annette I got this information from the Charters Towers (Lynd) Cemetery Burial Register Index (K-R), put out by the Genealogy society of Queensland. Someone on the list may have access to the Charters Towers Cemetery and help you further, or know of the papers available. The actual entry reads MUSKER Ivor, age 59, date 13 Dec 1952 entry no 234 it does say in the front of the index that enquiries about entries can be directed to the GSQ research services. 3. Dear Helen, I can't thank you enough. Now to obtain a death certificate and obituary and piece his last ten years of life together. Thank you so much from all of us - my mother who remembers being sent an Australian obituary back in the 1950s, which put me onto the track of Ivor in the first place, my cousin Barbara Musker in NSW who is the last surviving member of the family to have seen him and from my sister and me who have been relentless in the search. And thanks too to Judy Webster, without whom I'd never have found him. It is possible that my greatuncle Ivor Musker, who was an ex-merchant navy cook, responded to the war effort by moving to Townsville to enlist with the Australian Merchant Navy sometime between 1940 and 1943. Can anyone suggest how I might follow this up? Cheers Annette Musker of Wales
