As far as we can trace, there are no male WESCHE to carry on this line after the current generation. Johann Heinrich David WESCHE, (b. 16-Sep-1838, Liebenburg, Lewe, Hanover; d. 14-Jul-1923, Mackay, Qld, Australia) s/o Johann Heinrich WESCHE (b. 1802 Liebenburg, Lewe, Hanover; d. 1856 Gross Dohren, Hanover) and Johanne Marie GIESEKE (b. 1810, d. 1853 Lewe, Hanover) (Grandparents - Mori(t)z W(A)ESCHE and Anna Elizabeth WESCHE(N).) I am listing my interests again, please. I would like to hear from anyone with KADDATZ connections, please. KADDATZ, Daniel Ludwig Edward (b. 13-Apr-1832, West Prussia; d. 24-Feb1912, Mackay, Qld, Australia) s/o KADDATZ and FALTZ m 1854 Auguste Justine Emillie GROSSKREUTZ (b. 1828, West Prussia; d. 12-Jul-1913, Mackay, Qld, Australia) previously married 1849 - Carl KADDATZ Arrived in Australia on "REICHSTAG", arrived Moreton Bay, Qld, 1-Aug-1872 with two sons: 1. Gustav Carl Edward KADDATZ, (b. 8-Mar-1859 Danzig, Prussia; d. 21-Jan-1953 Toogoolawah, Qld, Australia) m 13-Sep-1887 Wilhelmine Dorette WESCHE d/o Johann Christian Andreas WESCHE and Conradina Wilhelmine TAPPE 18 children 2. August Ludwig Edward KADDATZ (b. 7-Jan-1864 Lassier, Prussia; d. 28-Aug-1927 Mackay, Qld, Australia) m. 19-Jan-1895 Johanna Marie WESCHE d/o Johann Christian Andreas WESCHE and Conradina Wilhelmine TAPPE 13 children To-date all research has shown that ALL KADDATZ's in Queensland are descendants from these two brothers who married two sisters. Family gossip is that it was from town near Russian boarder (?), and that maybe Daniel Ludwig Edward KADDATZ was a Russian? They were possibly of the Lutheran faith, although this is uncertain. Thanks you all for your information regarding Trekelano. I can now start putting some flesh on the bones. I'll get into the Mines and Energy Library in the school holidays and maybe see what I can find about the area in the John Oxley Library. Jacqui
Hello Ian... Thanks very much for that info. It gives me something to work on.. And also, I actually found my great great uncle McDonald in the awm site, so much appreciate all your help. Good luck. James, Thanks for the tip on AWM database. Have you found anything on the first troops to go into action- AN&MEF or the tropic force after that. One of mine was in the latter before joining the AIF. Also, anybody seeking information about the 5th Light Horse Regiment, Second Light Horse Brigade, A.I.F. 1914 -1918 might be in luck if they can get their hands on "The Desert Column" by Ion Idriess. Kay, Try http://www.awm.gov.au/database/roh.asp and insert your place name on the first search field. Be aware that any mention of a similar name will bring up an entry. I was looking for Port Macquarie enlistments, and got Lake Macquarie, surnmaes of Macquarie etc. Ian. - --------------------------------------------------- Click here for Free Video!! http://www.gohip.com/free_video/ ----- Original Message ----- From: Kay Cohen <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, August 29, 2000 10:34 PM Subject: WW1 enlistments > Thanks to everyone who replied re my query about WW1 enlistments. I have successfully looked up deaths by place of enlistment on the AWM database, thanks James. My problem is that I don't have particular names to look up. My starting point is the place, eg Cloncurry, and I was hoping to find all the names of men who enlisted there. I did start by noting all the Queensland battalions etc. and going through the related enlistment fiches but there are hundreds of them, so I was rather hoping there was a specific database or some type of record for enlistments by place rather than by name or military unit. Jacqui, I think the spelling is Trekelano, it's not in the index to Gold and Ghosts which is a bit strange. Can you access the library at the Department of Mines and Energy in Brisbane ? Trekelano is the name. It is South east of Mount Isa, between Duchess and Kuridala. "Mines in the Spinifex" by Geoffrey Blainey (A&R 1962 / 1978) has some info. Trekelano was a small copper deposit, discovered in 1897, and mined by Hampden Cloncurry Copper Mines Limited around the time of WW1. We used to live in Mount Isa and will see whether we can find out any further info. cheers Ken and Margot Dredge Jacqui Conn wrote: > I'm trying to identify a mine near Cloncurry which is pronounced > Trick-a-lar-no. I'm trying to identify a mine near Cloncurry which is pronounced Trick-a-lar-no. Michael Purcell, from Charters Towers, worked out there around the 1920s. Can anyone help? TIA Jacqui
Persons interested in World War One information may find the following site interesting to read: http://www.awm.gov.au/database/roh.asp You can type in the name of any town or city and the siste will produce a list of the persons who enlisted from that town/city who died in WW!. Cheers Jim in Toowoomba
Hi there, Are there any Hinchmores on that list? Lee Chambers [email protected] http://homepages.go.com/~tassie13/tassie.html I believe in karma, what u give is what u get in return.
Hi Ian... Thanks very much. If it's not too much trouble, I am interested in the following: Eric Norton Smith, returned to Australia (He later had his name Norton-Smith, but I think in those days he was plain old Smith!). Major George St.John Fancourt McDonald (KIA 1918) also, if possible, Ruby Lillian Mackay - she was a nursing sister, and I think attached to the Army. (She and Eric are my grandparents) I really do appreciate your time and effort Ian. Thanks so much Margaret
Hi Margaret, No- I have the nominal roll of AIF overseas service for WW1(microfiche set)- can do look-ups for anyone, tho must have full details to pick the right man as ther were a lot with the same names etc. Even if you mention that they were KIA or returned to Australai would help in some cases.
