    1. Names on Death Certificates
    2. Neil Williams
    3. Hi all, Can someone please shed some light on a question I have about a death certificate I have. It is the death certificate of my ggrandfather's defacto. It is one of the post 1890 certificates and in point 10 on the certificate under "Names and religion of minister, and/or names of two witnesses of burial or cremation" there are two names. Now it could be a strange and somehow warped coincidence but one of the names listed on this woman's (remember she was the defacto not the wife) death certificate is the same name as his wife's first husband whom we don't know what happened to. Where do these people come from usually? Are they staff of the funeral directors? Are they council employees who work at the cemetery? Or are they persons who are known to the deceased? Is it a strange twist of fate or just a coincidence? What are your thoughts? Neil Williams ******************************************** Researching the names, RYLAND, SATCHER, MANN, REYNOLDS WILLIAMS, ENGEL from the SE QLD area. ******************************************

In many instances, couples remain friends after marriage break-up. At least you know he was still alive at that date & was living reasonably close to his ex-wife & her de-facto, so you should be able to pick him up in the electoral rolls & see if any other males in his household were over 21 years. 3. Hi Ros, You haven't said which certificates & other documents you already have. Without knowing that, but assuming you have a reason to connect all these people, I would suggest: Find the marriages of Alexander George GRANT & Alexander Rose GRANT. Find a Mary BELL born about 1865-1870. (Roughly when I would expect your Maryanne's mother to have been born). Find the death & obituary notices in the local newspaper & a major one for Mary GRANT nee BELL d 13 Feb 1886 to see who her husband & children were & where they lived. This Mary was not the mother of these children. Hopefully, the obit will give her age & names of other relatives. Find the death & obituary notices of Alexander George GRANT & Alexander Rose GRANT to see who their wives & children were & where they lived. They sometimes give names of other relatives. This Alexander Rose GRANT is unlikely to be your Mary's father, but it is possible. 1. Culcraigie
    2. Jane
    3. Dear listers, Does anybody know anything about a place called Culcraigie in Queensland? Of 12 children of Charles Macarthur of Cawdor, Scotland, were William Macarthur (born 1815) and Margaret (born 1817). Margaret married my gr-gr grandfather John Macgillivray and William married his sister Henrietta in 1838. Charles Macarthur died in 1837 and whether it was at that point or later, a tombstone was erected by Charles for his father. 'Erected by their son William, Culcraigie, Queensland, Australia' in Cawdor churchyard. I was able to find such a place with the help of a kind Queenslander, south of Gladstone, west of Bundaberg, NW of Marroochydore, Rooloolaka. The only other place on the map when you zoom in is Eidivold, the distances are quite amazing for someone here in Europe. I understand this is the back of beyond, with probably beef cattle propertiies. Would anyone know anything more about Culcraigie, when it was founded, who lived there, what the settlers did? Many thanks indeed for any information.(My late father held that these Macarthurs of Cawdor were related to the merino sheep Macarthurs of Plymouth and Argyll, but I have no idea how) Jane

You may remember the saga where i couldn't find anything on my great granmother Pearl Ethel May Lake because she was illigitimate and her marriage and death certificates gave two different names for her mother being Maud Douglas and Maud Morgan. Finally i found an intestacy of Pearls fathers death in 1924. It was administered by the Public Trustee and as over 75 years have passed it was on open access however the records are not available to the public and one must go through the public trustee and it cost $40 for them to retrieve the file. Now knowing that he had never divorced his wife and that their only child was dead and no guarantee as to what would be in the file i had to hope that he had other beneficiaries, namely my ggrandma and i was suspecting a sibling by the same woman but i thought with my luck it would have gone to the legal widow. Well folks i was very lucky today. Obviously Maud didn't want the legal widow to get what little the was(about 100 pounds) and with the documents was an avidavit from the magistrate at Hughenden telling us that Samuel Charles had taken up with a Maud O"BRIEN and the birthdates of my ggrandma(which we hadn't known only about 1900 and her brother Percy(the suspected sibling). Now all i have to do is verify that the woman with the headstone in Charters Towers that says Maud Lake who died in 1954 is buried as one Maud O'Brien and i can order a death certificate and hopefully find who her parents were, though i may never know why she used the aliases. Sorry this is so long, but sometimes one piece helps it all fall into place and i'm so glad i decided to pay $40 on the chance that there would be something worth it in there. 3. Hello Ros, I have absolutely no idea. All I know is that our John Maher was referred to as both John Maher and John Clark at different times. In the Catholic Church baptismal records for his children to Anne Jane Toohey McPherson, he has been recorded as John Maher-Clark. Perhaps the church knew something we have not been able to find out???
