On the 24 Jul 1874, The "St James" berthed at Maryborough. On board was the MALYON family - shipping records report MALLYON. Charles (1833-19Feb1907), his wife, Susan Anne (nee PURKISS) (1836-24Feb1875) and their three youngest children, Stephen MALYON (21Jul1864-6Apr1944) married Mary Ann MORAN Sarah Ann MALYON (1Jun1868-2Oct1943) married John BURNET/T Charles Francis MALYON (20Apr1873-?) married Luoisa HILLIER These family members settled around SE Qld. The eldest son, (my ancestor) reportedly had intended travelling with them, but after a family argument, caught the first ship out of England, intending to go to the USA, but arrived in Queensland on the 'Lady Douglas" on the 2 Jun 1874. Shipping records have him as MALYON but he is recorded in the Queensland records as: Henry MALLYON (9Oct1856-1929). He married on 20Apr1877, to Mary Jane DAVISON, an Irish lass straight off a boat. They settled around Central Queensland, namely Springsure and Rockhampton. I have most of the descendants, but would like to hear from anyone else researching these families. Descendants Names include but not limited to: Banwack, Bielby, Butcher, Buchanan, Cook, Finger, Gennings, Hanrahan, Herwin, Hillier, Madden, McConachie, McLaughlin, Moodie, Muirhead, Ohl, Owens, Parry, Savage, Smalley, Smith, Spanner, Steele, Stubbs, Trevor, Welk, Wieland, Winter, Wood, Wooler. Hello, Just an introduction of myself to the list. I have been on the Qld list and only recently discovered there was a North Qld one as well! My area of concern is Cairns. My ggrandfather John RYAN who emigrated from Ireland 1n 1900-to be with his children in Qld-he died in Carins-Feb 27, 1910. His son Edward Thomas RYAN was known to be a teacher there between 1917-1919. Edwd's dtr:Mary Eleanor RYAN married Pat'k Joseph KIELY in Cairns (Apr 11, 1917) They had a son James Pat'k KIELY b. Nov 17, 1917. I am trying to find any other siblings of James' Pat'k-- Are there RC church records re baptisms for the town available-if so how would one access them? Was there an army camp in Cairns during WW1? What type of records in general are available for research in the area? Thanks for your time Nancy...Orlando, Fl USA _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Hello listers, The Charters Towers Central School recently celebrated its 125th Anniversary. To coincide with the anniversary a book on the school and its predecessors (Charters Towers Boys, Girls & Infants etc) was published. While there are no enrolment listings (which would probably require a second book !) the book has good photo coverage of classes from the mid 1920s onwards, and reasonably thorough photo coverage from 1949 onwards plus good coverage of teaching staff. The size is A4 softback, 232 pages and would be of interest to many people with Charters Towers ancestry. I'm advised that there are only about 200 copies left and a second print run is unlikely. The book is available from Charters Towers Central School, cost $30 + a bit more for postage and packing. All profits go to the P & C committee of the school. Phone the school on (07) 4787 2427 for full details. Cheers Ian Hodkinson

Ann I would be happy to publish the book online, if it is OK from a copyright point of view with you. Since it is out of print we would not be treading on anyone's toes and the 2000 names would certainly be valuable to a lot of people. Have a think and let me know. It would be a Hughenden website hosted for free on the Archives Office server where my other two website are.
