Hi Nancy, Oops - your sister (not cousin) Ellen. Your emails were asking the same questions. Best Wishes Phillip
Hi Nancy, I have located where (but not the exact plot location) your great grandfather John (Cullen) RYAN is buried here in CAIRNS. There are a couple of KIELY's in the CAIRNS phone book. No, no official army camps in CAIRNS in WW1. Enlistments done here, but all camps at the various capital cities. If you have the names of the people I can look up to see what records of their military service are available. Do you know you have a cousin Ellen in NYC? Best Wishes Phillip MURPHY
Nancy I don't if this is any help but in Pioneers and Settler FarNQ pre 1920 there is one submission for Ryan. Ryan Margaret Christina B24 Oct 1874 Jondaryn Qld par Patrick James and Ellen Georgina Daley mar Edward Priestley 11 Mar 1889 Registry Office Georgetown. issue Edward b 18 Nov 1890 Normanton Qld, Margaret 6 April 1891, Maria Amelia b 29 Dec 1892 and Henry William b 6 Jan 1885. There are about 16 Ryans in the Eacham Electoral 1920 but no matches on names given. This area is the Greater Atherton Tablelands. As far as a WW1 camp in Cairns, I don't think so as my relations went to Townsville to sign on then onto Brisbane for training but I could be wrong. Let me know if you want more - I will track down RC churches in Cairns for you to write to Good Luck Norma ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy C" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 05, 2000 2:34 AM Subject: Cairns records > Hello, > > Just an introduction of myself to the list. Roy and Lyn Do you have the information from the Pioneers and Settlers Register, Far NQ pre 1920? The Jorgensens in there aren't exactly the same but there is enough of a similarity with names etc that I would check it out. Hello Lorrae, Doon caught my eye. My guess is that it's about the size of Mingela, so if you are looking there, you might come across some Harrigans. I am interested in Mary Ann Harrigan, b. Doon, Limerick 1869. She was the daughter of Thomas Harrigan and Mary Burke (also written De Burgh, may also be Bourke). Mary Ann came out to Qld on the "Jelunga" in 1891. Married Ted Garrard (aka Collins) at Winton in 1896 and died at Cloncurry in 1907. Would like to know where she was for the 5 years prior to her marriage. For Western searchers, I am also interested in Edward Garrard (George Collins) at Winton and Quambetook, Kynuna until about 1925, or elsewhere in Qld from about 1885. Hello Ellen I have a copy of the book Pioneers & Settlers Register Far North Qld 1920 and did a search for Ryan and MacLeod. There is a Ryan, but no names matched. The information in this book was contributed by descendants, so you would have to be very lucky to find out anything about your family. The son Edward would appear in the State Archives Register of teachers, someone might be able to help you with that. There is a Cairns and District Family History Society, PO Box 5069 Cairns Queensland 4870 Australia. They would have the BDM for the area, and lots of other information that might help you. Hi I am new to this list and would like to know if there is anybody out there researching either SLEEMAN or PEARSON families in the Rockhampton area. Also I am finding it rather difficult to find immigration records on my Sleeman family. I have been through all the film and noticed that a few pages have been blanked out. Does anybody know why this is so? The year I have searched is 1883 and I beleive they arrived at Rockhampton. Christine Stewart Townsville

Hello NQ listers I am a newbie to this list and want to register my surname interests. They are: TOMLINSON & EBBAGE. I am wondering if anyone else on the list is researching these families. If so I would be pleased to hear from you. My main area of interest at the moment is to try to establish when William TOMLINSON, my g-gfather, came to Australia from Yorkshire and on what ship. He was born in Sheffield 1838; married Sarah Jane Nalty from Ireland in Brisbane 1875, and died in Townsville in 1902. On his death certificate it is stated he had been living in Queensland for 45 years, but this could be a rough guess by his son, Charles, living in Walker Street. William's daughter, Jane, m. George EBBAGE (my g/parents). He came to Qld. from Norfolk in 1890. I would be happy to pass on information about their family to anyone interested. TIA, Regards, Yvonne (nee Bolderrow) in Canberra, ACT

Hi Ellen, I'll look up a copy of the Pioneer Register for you here in CAIRNS. It doesn't contain everyone, and is from submitted and gathered information. Most church records not available, but I will see what other records i can find them in for you. There are BMD indexes, the cemetery records, and a few other sources I will look up for you. I will not be able to do this until tomorrow (Tuesday) evening. Best Wishes Phillip MURPHY
Would SKS be able to lookup two births for me please. - Country Queensland in the mid to late 1890's. Mother: Margaret Mary MADDEN (Morris) Child: Thomas - born 3 July 1896 Mother: Margaret Jane MADDEN (Ambrey) Child: Alfred - born before 1901 I would like the reference numbers and under what name the cousins may have been registered - my guess - MADDEN. I could not find them under the surname of the men that the mothers married. (Morris & Ambrey). Never thought to look under the mother's maiden name, until it was pointed out to me. Silly me - didn't realise it happened back then too. :)))))) Thank you Lorrae Johnson 13 Forest Avenue Plainland Q 4341 Phone/FAX: 07 5465 6725
