I wonder if anyone would have any information about this business and what time they may have been there. Also, I cannot find any information on Ravenswood, if anyone has any web addresses I would love to have them. Any help gratefully appreciated. Thais Hardman.

    3. Hi Jan Elizabeth Giles is the dau of Mary Jane (Jane) Froon from Limerick Ireland and James Giles from Kerry Ireland. .I think Elizabeth Giles and Robert Clapham lived apart but her death cert is in the name of Elizabeth Clapham. Her fathers name was James Giles and he had a brother John Giles and father John Giles. When the Giles family came to Australia there wasn't a wife's name on the shipping list. So father John Giles could have been widowed and remarried here. The brothers first wife was Catherine Magoffin and 2nd wife Alice Ramage. He had a son John William Giles born 15th May 1895, I don't know who he married yet. I have had trouble sorting out the John Giles death entries and this week I requested a one name search from the archives so I will advise you of the result when I hear from them Thank you Alice Peters ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, January 17, 2001 8:00 PM Subject: AUS-NQ-D Digest V01 #1

    3. Hi Alice, My name is Jan Alford-Jarvis, and I was interested to see that your relative Robert CLAPHAM married a Elizabeth GILES in Toowoomba in 1892. Do you know or have any information on Elizabeth GILES and her family?. One of my relatives Elizabeth Ann BIBBS married John GILES in 1899 in Queensland. I have yet to get the marriage certificate to find out who John's parents were, but I know he died and Elizabeth remarried. So far I have found 3 possible deaths & parents of John on the indexes that are around the 1930's which fits in with my information. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks. Kind regards Jan. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Noel & Alice Peters" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, 11 January 2001 20:13 Subject: Clapham research > > > I am trying to find details of my grandfather ROBERT EMMERSON CLAPHAM b 1867 Durham England arrived Qld 1877 with family. 1. Charters Towers Interests
    2. Roy Waites
    3. Hi, I have recently found that by 1895 many of my WHYTE family had moved from Townsville to the Towers. I wonder if someone with interests there may be able to help with some more information on them. My g.g.grandfather died in 1890 and I found a submission by his widow to sell their land in Townsville so it could be divided up between the children. This listed the children and where they were. I found that the widow Agnes was in Charters Towers as was a married daughter - Eliza the wife of Joseph Johnson with a daughter Elizabeth and later a son, James. 3 single children were also there - Agnes McGowan Whyte, William Whyte (working for the railway) and Andrew McGowan Whyte (a miner). Another brother James had died there in 1894. 2 married sisters were in Townsville - Mary Baird the wife of Charles Carlson (a master mariner) and Anne the wife of Gustav Sirienius (a fireman). The last member of the family was Williamina the wife of Alexander Robert McGregor (lighthouse keeper at Archer Point south of Cooktown. If anyone knows any more about this family I would be most appreciative. Regards Heather

    3. Judy This is not Hooper info but a bit I found on Mazlins while doing school research. Carbeen West School was moved to Flat Rock. The removal was completed January 1939 the contractor being Mr V.A. Mazlin of Mareeba and the cost 97 pounds excluding painting. These schools were around Walkamin and Paddy's Green.
