Hello Christine Please respond to my message above. Many thanks Regards Andrew Kent
Hello Christine I came across you above 2004 post yesterday when searching - on a whim - for Charles John Hudson and Martha Carpenter. Where do you fit into the Hudson lineage? And whereabouts are you located - Australia or UK? Your list of children to Charles and Martha is not complete though in the years since you posted your request you may well have discovered that. I can add further to what you have written; however, I would like to know where you fit in. Kind regards Andrew Kent
We have just finished indexing the Alley family graves, near Gordonvale. https://www.chapelhill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/Photos/Alley_Family_Graves-Gordonvale/ The photos and search tool can be found at: https://www.chapelhill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/Photos/ Thank you to all our users over the years who have spotted and reported the errors that inevitably occur or who possess additional information to help us decipher the more illegible headstones. Good evening to the List! I kindly ask the assistance of those on the list in making contact with any O'BRIEN or CUMMINS families who have connections to Monasteroris, Edenderry, Co. Offaly, Ireland. My great-grandmother, Ann O'BRIEN married James CUMMINS in Edenderry, in 1870. Their daughter Margaret CUMMINS [my grandmother] was born in Monasteroris on 6 March, 1874. Shortly after she was born, the family emigrated to North Queensland. CUMMINS and their numerous associated families lived in Belgian (German) Gardens, Townsville. If anyone has connections, I would be pleased to hear from you. Cheers Jennifer Dr. Jennifer Lambert Tracey BA (ANU); M APP. SC. Hi, My interest is in the following: Mary-Jane Lamond - Charters Towers - buried in Historical cemetery in Charters Towers Alfred (Alf) Chick - Her husband - died on Woodlark Island in New Guinea in 1901 - why was he there - he is listed as a labourere in the New Guinea government gazette death notices. (Mining ?) Their son Osten Alexander Chick - Charters Towers (died and grave not located near Chillagoe bringing cattle to The Valley of Lagoons station from Dunbar station in 192.. (?) Osten married my grandmother when he was in his 50's. I would be very interested in information about him prior to his marriage as we have nothing except mentions of him in the Charters Towers papers regarding horse events. Also he had a racehorse at one point and we have one photograph of him standing holding the reins. Oh and their extended families. Greetings all from an expatriate North Queenslander on the Sunshine Coast It's good to see this group up and running again. My NQ names are Mann (Inverness, Scotland), Mann ( originally from Cornwall, England via South Australia) Bell ( originally from Northern Ireland via Maitland NSW), O'Brien (from Co. Cavan, Ireland) and Swindley (originally from Cheshire via Victoria and New South Wales) On my father's (Robert 'Bob' Mann 1917-2005) side, my earliest QLD settlers were Alex and John Mann who emigrated from Scotland to Nth QLD in 1888 and 1889 respectively. Both worked around the north including on the Kuranda railway line initially. They bought dairy farms at Koah but had to walk away after the herds were destroyed by the scrub tick invasion in 1896. They then settled on a sugar cane farm which was part of the Swallow Estate at Hambledon, Edmonton. The property is still in the family. In 1912 John Mann won land in a ballot for Upper Inkerman in the Burdekin when that area was opened up for growing sugar cane. This farm is still owned by the family. On my mother's Swindley (Frances Irene Swindley 1922-2009) side, her grandfather William Swindley and his wife Georgina Agnes Bell were in Mareeba by 1894 when the first of their thirteen children, William Francis (1894-1968) was born. William, born in Cunnamulla in 1868, and Georgina, born Charters Towers 1872, were married in Georgetown in 1893. His parents, William Swindley and Annie O'Brien, had made their way from Wentworth up the Darling with a team of bullocks commencing about 1863. This family settled in Tolga where descendants still live. My mother's Mann family left Adelaide in 1900 and went to the mines in Mungana, OK and Gilmore before also winning farm land at Upper Inkerman in the Burdekin in 1912. Descendants still grow sugar cane in the Burdekin. I'm happy to share research with anyone looking for these names or places in those time lines. This is kinda my roll call call response but not really - the googlebot knows all the names as my tree is searchable at http://kerrychoy.id.au/DamperInAWok so I won't list everyone. I was visiting Cairns a few years ago and noted that there was a plaque on Elizabeth Daniel's (nee Murphy nee Roberts)(1867-1930) that was quite different to the memorials around it: a more modern flat plaque of the lawn cemetery style surrounded by early twentieth century granite and marble tombstones. Another interesting clue was that the CDFHS folks had a card index of inscriptions from the early 1980's and this plaque was not listed there. This suggests someone "recently" installed a plaque for Elizabeth. I did try to follow the paperwork trail through council to see if I could find who had done this but they pleaded ignorance about new systems and old records being archived in Brisbane. (Nope - I'm not in Brisbane) So there's someone out there who has a common interest in Elizabeth. Please get in touch. -- Kerry Work like it depends on you. Pray like it depends on God.
