    3. Is there any records around the late 1850s that would record an arrest of a deserter of the British Army. He was arrested in Australia and was to be shipped back to England but he jumped ship and was never deported. Thank goodness or my family would not have been here!! Margaret

There is a small publication called the Deserters by Rae Sexton compliled from source matrial published in the Government Gazettes and the Sydney Gazette it lists deserters, the bulk are between 1830 and 1870. it is indexed.
