Hi List, I am seeking a group photo for the 23rd Battalion 9th Reinforcement for WW1 if anyone knows of any in existence. Also interested in same for 39th Battalion for WW2. T.I.A. Doug
Doug As the 23rd was an Victorian Bn, you may have to try one of the Melbourne papers of the time - Age or Argus to see if they had any photos you are after. Doug Since you have not said where you have checked already I might be telling what you already know. If the Australian War Memorial does not have a copy then a Victorian pictorial magazine such as The Australasian would be your best bet. For WW2 the Argus did a lot of group photos for the 17th Bde AIF. It was in a weekly supplement so check about the time the 39th Battalion sailed to the Territory of Papua. There are battalion histories for both units and the bibliographies in either may give you a clue.
