Hi List, here is an quote from the original email on this thread "The Australian Defence Medal will be issued to those members who served in either the regular defence forces, the reserves or through national service and who completed their initial terms or 4 years, whichever is the lesser. " Thus I would assume National Servicemen, like my father who completed his 2 years service (being his "initial term") including a year in Vietnam Dec1967 - Dec1968 with 3 RAR, are eligable for this medal. "National servicemen will also be eligible for the ADM, as the completion of their National Service obligation will be considered as completion of an initial enlistment period of service."
