Hi All, Is anyone able to tell me if my Grandfather had any medals, his name is Alfred Charles James Pelling he was a private and fought and died in ww2 and is burried in Bomona War Cemetery, Port Morseby, Papua New Guniea. He only had one child, my mum, she was born a couple of months before his death, though a good thing is he did get leave and did get to hold his daughter on the day of her birth before he was shipped back., Nan tells me this is something that wasn't done in those days, but she was happy they made exceptions for him. Nan showed me a letter that he had sent her a couple of days before he died. Dated 30/09/1943, Jim asked for things like vegemite & soap .Its a lovely letter and I can understand why nan has had it hidden in a shoe box under her bed for more then 60 years. Unfortunately Jim (my Grand dad) was one of those people that may be alive today had things not been as gung ho as they were in the war days, but thats the way it goes. Thanks Karen
