    2. "Apparently the records office burnt down and the family can not trace any service records" Hello All I don't mean to muddle in something I know little about, however I am confused about the above statement and not being able to get (Charman) some ones Military Record. I was able to get my 2 cousins records (WWII era) through the mail after an online search (photos and all). I thought that was marvelous. Australia has the best genealogy records in the world. I haven't been able to get a thing from Ireland, I can't even get my Uncles USA military record and I live here. I have been wanting to ask a question of my own about locating a veteran who may still be alive. Does Australia have Veterans Associations that meet regularly? I thought I might be able to send them a letter to post in the club in an attempt to locate my cousins and/or any of the family members. 3. Liz There are a number of veterans' organisations, the biggest is the RSL. See http://www.rsl.org.au/ However, Australia has compulsory electoral enrolment and the Australian Electoral Commission issues microfiche rolls sometimes twice a year. There are separate microfiche rolls for each state and territory but they are in alphabetical order by state or territory. Australia has six states and two territories, a maximum of eight look ups. The microfiche have full names unlike the telephone directory that has name and initials. My bet is that Australia has a New York consul who may have a set of microfiche. Or you could e-mail info@aec.gov.au. If they cannot answer your request the should be able to indicate where in the United States you can find a set of microfiche.
