    3. Does anyone know of the 56 Battalion 2 AIF? I have found this Battalion listed as a "Posting at Discharge" on the new WW2 Nominal Roll site. I have tried the usual searches without sucess. Many thanks Joy

    3. Hi Joy 56 Aust Inf Bn was part of 5 Aust Infantry Brigade throughout the war. They were mobilized at Bathurst, NSW in December 1941 and moved to Centennial Park, Sydney in March 1942. They moved to WA in July 1942 and camped at Melville, Bellevue and at Irwin Siding (near Minginew) before being stationed at Moonyoonooka (near Geraldton) from February to September 1943. They then camped at Wellington Dam, Swanbourne and Dandaragan before moving to Kairi on the Atherton Tableland inland from Cairns where they arrived in February 1944. They were disbanded on 6 June 1944. This is a summary of the database printout for this unit and if you are interested you could get a copy of the full listing of the unit's location at the end of each month during the war. This is available from Grimwade Publications at [email protected] for the modest cost of $10 per unit Cheers Graham McKenzieSmith ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kjele" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 10, 2002 5:43 AM Subject: 56 BATTALION 2 AIF > > Does anyone know of the 56 Battalion 2 AIF?
