My grandfather fought during WW1 in the 4th. DIV. TRAIN. Can anyone explain what exactly this stood for??? Also he was in the BOER WAR as a private but became LIEUTENANT in WW1 promoted to CAPTAIN.His name was Robert Withers.There is no mixup in names so if someone can add to this I would be most appreciative?? signed K.Lemon

This rather old fashioned term refers to the baggage train that followed a division around. This horse drawn (in WWI) transport hauled the supplies forward. A Boer War veteran would often be considered a good choice to head up a horse drawn transport section. Not too strenuous a job for an older man, but requiring a good knowledge of military administration and procedure and experience with horses.
