    3. Kylee You seem to have a lot of information already so I was wondering what was the source of your information and what information are you are seeking. >From the information you have given I have two queries. Where wine and spirits licences given to serving soldiers. This era is not my expertise but since Snr served with the 73rd which arrived in 1810 then presumably he was still a soldier in 1809. Secondly you give the impression his son joined the 73rd after it arrived in Australia so is it likely he served with NSW Corps. 3. Good Morning Linda, K Camp would be Kilmany Camp, the property was used for years as a training area (the owner was very supportive of the local military) I have other photos from this camp, is it possible to get a better scan we (the Gippsland Armed Foces Museum) may be able to indentify some of the members in the photo by comparison. The unit involved was the 10th Light Horse Regiment with its Headquarters in Sale, in 1912 it was renamed 13th Light Horse Regiment with its members recruited from across Gippsland. I now have to admit I have found out more, but I want to say a couple of things in my defence first! The photo was taken as part of documentation of the contents of a needlework basket. I knew it was a photo of people, but I was working so quickly that it was only when I got home I realised they were in military uniform. Or I may have taken more notice at the time. Then, it was only late last night I got to the sheet compiled by the cataloguer for checking. And found the notation "explanation on the other side". By that time I was kicking myself for not unwrapping the lace, but thought it would be just foreground and more boots. Although that black line up the middle was there ..... So I have been for a drive this morning, and looked at it again. And there is a scan of the full photo now at http://static.flickr.com/96/230647680_4a6b823c5d_o.jpg And the label pasted on the back appears almost complete. It reads: ".... K Camp on Thomson River / .....to 28th 1908. Men getting / dinner from Cooks" So there you go. For those unfamiliar with our local geography, the Thomson River is in Gippsland, quite near the current location of the photograph. Wish I had the whole photo. But it is a nice one of the stove. 1. [AUS-MIL] Anzca Book- FREE
    2. Ted HARRIS
    3. A book called "Anzac Jack" is good reading for people researching the Gallipoli era and later. (The principal character is a New Zealander in the Australian Army (AIF). He was awarded the DCM. He was a "dawn-lander" at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 Until now it was available for sale and who can afford to buy all the books. Now it is FREE as an E-book. Go to the site to download it. This is the notification I received. For your info we now have an "Anzac Jack" website. < www.anzac-jack.com >. Just prior to Anzac Day this April, the family of Anzac Jack sent a complimentary copy of the book to every College and High School in New Zealand. This was done with the blessing of the CEO of the New Zealand Ministry of Education. We were overwhelmed with the response from the school Principals and their Librarians. Apparently the staff and the pupils made full use of the book while preparing speeches and projects for the forthcoming Anzac Day and it could not have come at a more opportune time for them. As a result of this the family of Anzac Jack decided to offer "Anzac Jack" as an E book on our website in order that schools and their pupils could have convenient access to it at all times at no cost and by way of a medium with which they are familiar. We would be grateful for any publicity and suggestions you could give us to help in this respect to make the availability of access to the E Book more widely known in Australia. Cheers, Ted Harris

    3. Morning Linda, Yes, they are light horse. The white stripe in the puggaree (hat band)introduced in 1912 (this was changed in 1930 to Maroon) plus the leggings and jodphurs. I would say it was taken in Australia by the gum trees in the background. It is hard to accurately date the photo, but the cut of the civilian and the other waistcaot gives the impression of the WW1 period. For World War 1 the Army adopted a plain Khaki pugaree but a number of Light horsemen continued to wear the 1912 pattern pugaree during the war. Hope it helps. 3. I did not see the start of this thread so probable cannot comment but from experience The Regiments in the Royal Artillery were titled "Air Defence Regiments" and were normally tasked with defending airfields with either ground to air missiles or in the case of the regiment guarding the facilities at Semengo Camp and Kuching Airport in 1962-63 60/60 Radar Controlled Bofors In 1982 in the Falklands they were defending the base area On Google the Australian Regiments of Artillery are also named as either Field Regiments or Air Defence Regiments and as they follow the R A format are tasked with the same roles Hope that helps Roger Royal Marines Member RMHS Researching Copelin, Attrell, Reeves, Deacon & Pont

    1. [AUS-MIL] Drawing of Female in Lancer uniform
    2. 2. Female South Australian Lancer? (Ted HARRIS) Ted, In the National Library this is some music called the South Australian Lancers written 1875-1877.On the front is a persons name and the date 99. A Google search also found some modern lead soldiers called South Australian Lancers I would ask questions about the province of that picture. I would think it is a spoof or Cartoon or a pinup picture. The style of the clothing does not appear go with the short skirt. Till about 1912 or so a women showing her ankles were considered titillating Skirts did not go above the ankle till about 1918 or later and dresses lost all shape. Regards Elizabeth Roberts http://img228.imageshack.us/my.php?image=salancersfront2du0.jpg I have been asked for an opinion on this image. I am stuck. I was not aware there were any "South Australian Lancers" that were female. I am not even 100% sure that a unit of that name existed. Some say yes, some say no.
