This rather old fashioned term refers to the baggage train that followed a division around. This horse drawn (in WWI) transport hauled the supplies forward. A Boer War veteran would often be considered a good choice to head up a horse drawn transport section. Not too strenuous a job for an older man, but requiring a good knowledge of military administration and procedure and experience with horses.

G'day, a year or so ago, I searched the AWM Photographic database. I found a photo, taken in France, but after the Armistice, of all officers & NCO's of the 51st Bn. Perhaps there are other photos, but I forget. Suggest you have a look there. My interest is Warrant Officer Edwin RICE MSM, 16th Bn at Gallipoli; 51st Bn for the rest of the war. Note: 51st was formed after Gallipoli by splitting the 16th: both were W.A. units. Hello List, Earlier this year I received a set of fiche being the War Diary of the 11th Bn AIF. My interest is actually with another battalion and so I would like to find someone who thinks they could do with these fiche for the 11th Bn. If you are interested, please contact me off list explaining briefly what your interest/connection is with the 11th Bn. Yours Julie in England
Dear Listers, Could someone provide details on the 41st Batt AIF in WW1 - where it served overseas? . Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Denise

David If she re-married it is highly likely that Albert died in WWI. I would try the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site - sorry I can't give you the address. Hi I don't know if this is what you want, but a searchable database is available on the internet. http://www.awm.gov.au/database/133/index.asp Also, if you search the National Archives http://www.naa.gov.au/ the series number for WW1 records is B2455. Daryl Ward
I am wishing to find a photograph of the 3rd reinforcements 51st Battalion, from the First War. They departed from Western Australia. Can anyone tell me in a direction to look. Thanks Donna Western Australi
I am trying to trace an Albert Sharpe, who married Maggie Mae Wylie in 1911 in Queensland. The problem I have, is that she married someone else in 1919. After exhausting everywhere I can think of, it dawned on me he may have joined the armed forces in WW1. Can anyone please tell me how I can trace if this is so? I had an address a long time ago, but it was deleted with other messages. Any help would be worthwhile. David

Thirty-six Vengeances were involved in this attack on Rempi. Ack ack tore holes in four Vengeances of 24 Squadron, but damage was not serious. No aircraft were lost. The Vengeances were withdrawn from action due to lack of space at forward fields; lack of range; and lack of capability compared with Kittyhawks. See Odgers: Air War Against Japan 1943-45 pp. 196-198
