    3. Well, he definitely had company: George Fordham MOUCHEMORE ...b 1887 Queenscliffe Victoria ...31Dec1915 enlisted; #114; served 36th H A B, corporal ~AWM113 ...Returned to Australia 02Mar1919 http://www.picknowl.com.au/homepages/bobm/mouch2.htm So it seems Heavy Artillery Brigade is probably it. Perhaps if you drop a line to this person all will be revealed. 1. Looking for a copy of a photo
    2. Lynette Rabbitt
    3. There was an article in the Australian Women's Weekly - November 1986 about Dennis Adams, one time war artist who had done 6 paintings of Australian service men and women in military uniforms from 1914-1973. At the top of the article are two of those paintings - one a nurse from WW1 the other of three men in uniform with their guns moving forward in an upright position. This is a WW2 painting. The one of the men is the one that I have been trying to find out where to get a copy of - one of those men is my Grandfather Peter Hilland McCoid - even though the names of the men are not recorded anywhere there is no way that you could mistake my Grandfather for anyone else. Can any one on the list help with my quest? Lynette Rabbitt E-mail [email protected]

    2. Lynette Rabbitt
    3. As promised I am posting the names from my Great Aunt's "Birthday Book" that I have found to be part of WW1. Firstly, those that I know are family. Cuthbert Francis LEACH pte 2854 37th Btn died 17 Nov 1918 (influenza). (My Great Uncle). I have just recently had a photo of him come into my possession along with a card made in Africa by one of his mates. His Cousins John Langford NAYLOR and Victor William LEACH also did not return. Ivan Imrie LEACH, brother of Victor returned home. He saw Victor's last moments. I have just recently managed to put together my Leech/Leach family tree with the aid of this little book. Now for the other names that I have found that took part in WW1 - June 10th Walter Edgar MOYLE October 6th Orry C FARRANT. I still have some names that I haven't been able to either decipher or locate information on them yet. It would appear that this was a gathering perhaps for my Great Grandfather who was in attendance, from what I can work out he would have been living in Brisbane at the time with his daughter and her family so it may have been a gathering of family and friends to see him again and friends of the children were welcome. 3. Doug Since you have not said where you have checked already I might be telling what you already know. If the Australian War Memorial does not have a copy then a Victorian pictorial magazine such as The Australasian would be your best bet. For WW2 the Argus did a lot of group photos for the 17th Bde AIF. It was in a weekly supplement so check about the time the 39th Battalion sailed to the Territory of Papua. There are battalion histories for both units and the bibliographies in either may give you a clue. 3. Doug As the 23rd was an Victorian Bn, you may have to try one of the Melbourne papers of the time - Age or Argus to see if they had any photos you are after. 3. Margaret Does anyone have and interest in the 19th Battalion AIF, WW1 or can tell me where I can find any information. I have a great uncle, John Archer (correct name John Reginald Maloney) who was killed on the 3rd May 1917 in France. There is no battalion history yet although I understand one maybe in preparation. For a very good overview of what was happening at Bullecourt on 3 May 1917 I recommend Vol 4, The AIF in France 1917 by C E W Bean, the Official Australian Historian. A good library either has the volume or could get it via interlibrary loan. Other material available is the WWI Nominal Roll at www.awm.gov.au his personal records at the archives at www.naa.gov.au or memorial details at www.cwgc.org I would recommend to everyone to not miss the opportunity of picking up a copy of Anzac to Amiens by C E W Bean. It is a summary of Australian's part in the 1914-1918. It has been through many printings in both hardback and paperback. It is very readable and it is by the acknowledged expert on the subject. 3. I realise that I have probably caught the interest of quite a few listers with the talk of this book - it only came into my possession in January - the only other time that I saw the book was on my Grandmother's table and then it was quickly snatched away and put in her pocket. I must add at this point that I was a married woman with young children at the time so to witness that from my Grandmother was a bit of a shock. If you can give me a couple of days ( I am trying to get some family research organised and off to another relation by snail mail) I'll post the names of those young men that I know of were involved in WW1 that are mentioned in the book. 2. Lynette Rabbitt
    3. Hi Everyone By great fortune I have in my possession a "Birthday Book" that belonged to my Grandmother's sister who died in 1917. The date inside the book is 1914 - it has taken me some time to work my way through the names recorded in the book (autographs) some belong to relatives and others belong to friends of her parents and members of their families. Amongst the names are those of her brother and 3 cousins who went to WW1, also what I believe may be a group of friends of theirs BUT one name eludes me Walter Edgar Moyle who was born June 10 year unknown. Would anyone out there have any information on Walter please? Regards Lynette Rabbitt E-mail [email protected]
