    3. The place is Healesville - we used to live there. Back then real country, now many people commute to work in Melbourne every day. Probably about an hour to 90 minutes drive east of Melbourne - could be well over two in peak hour! Sorry I can't help with your direct request Dawn (Melbourne) -----Original Message----- From: Denise Amos [mailto:denise@boobbyer.fsnet.co.uk] Sent: Monday, 6 March 2006 11:54 PM To: AUS-MELBOURNE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-MELB] James Allen Lindsay/Riddells Creek I am trying to fit the final part into a jig saw puzzle and hope that you may be able to help. I can give you the following information My great granmother born 5.10.1871 Mary henderson left England on the Macquarie bound for Sydney on 5.9.1985 the voyage was to last 104 days.(we have ships passenger list for this voyage) She was accompanied by her brother Robert Henderson. They took up residence around melbourne. She was a trained musician from the Royal academy and the possibility was she mixed with a musical/bohemian group in the area. It is believed she had a relationship with a man called Allen James Lindsay or James Allen Lindsay* (see below) and as a result my grandfather Hamilton Lindsay was born 12 April 1900 at Riddells Creek (we have the birth registration) bu there is no father's name on certificate. My granmother returned to England with Hamilton Sept/Oct 1901 on SS Rome - have not traced the ships passenger list - I traced a man called Allen J Lindsay 33 years in 1903 who travelled toEngland on the SS Persic arriving at Tilbury 13.10.03. * The man James Lindsay Allen aged 30 years occupation gentleman address given as George hotel S Kilda but usual address Healsville? birthplace St Oban, Scotland. He married a woman Mabel Jelfs 22 years born Melbourne, spinster musician of 46 Grieve Street St Kilda. Father's name Joseph Jelfs, mothers maiden name Sarah Howie. The marriage took place at St Judes Church, Carlton, Melbourne March 30 1901 Regisre No 324 @ St Judes. I wonder if there is any way of checking any of this information, such as address books/trade directories etc?
