The region round St Vincents hospital Melbourne and a little further out, perhaps Fitzroy area, was once called Newtown too - 1850s at least as my gg grandparents lived there when they were witnesses to their brother and sister's marriage. (Two brothers married two sisters..). Also there is a Newtown as a suburbthese days of Albury. But the common Newtown is in Geelong these days. My Aunt and Uncle and cousins used to live there. (nearby to Shepparton) ARAT is Ararat, also country Victoria, FITZ is Fitzroy is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria I think Newport is a suburb of Geelong, Victoria, STKI is short for St.Kilda, which is a seaside suburb of Melbourne.
