I have 2 brothers who were sentenced to a reformatory in 1871, described as "B Reformatory", but location is unknown. Their younger brother was also sentenced in 1875 to an institution, described as "Nelson" - could this be the name of a hulk moored somewhere? Older brother's clothes were "thrown overboard" leading me to believe they too were on a hulk or some sort of prison ship. Any ideas anyone? Any suggested reading? Cheers, Robyn of Geelong
There were Prison Hulks moored off Williamstown and I think at least one old naval vessel used as a reformatory or training ship for boys. Try "Google" Eric. ----- Original Message ----- From: <fracc@optusnet.com.au> To: <AUS-MELBOURNE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 17, 2006 7:10 PM Subject: [AUS-MELB] Reformatory/Hulk > I have 2 brothers who were sentenced to a reformatory in 1871, described as "B Reformatory", but location is unknown.
