Ernene Is it possible that there was a second marriage here somewhere. I had the same thing with my ggrandparents where half the children were registered to Maria Nicol the others to Maria Byron. As her married name was not exactly common it had me puzzled as how this man seem to have two partners by the name of Maria. it turned out Maria had been reared by a stepfather Byron, but her natural father was Nicol, hence two maiden names. It could also be a mispronunciation, if Margaret was illiterate, she may not have realised they had written her mother's name down incorrectly. Hello Carmel No, there was not a second marriage. I wondered that as well but Mary Ann Russell (nee O'Grady") was buried as Mary Ann Russell, died in Victoria on 15th July 1910 as a pensioner and is buried at Boroondoora Cemetery Kew. I have never been able to find out what happened to James Russell. She is not buried as a widow, he must have disappeared. There was also a son Frederick b. 1866 at Madmans Gully, Beechworth who I cannot find any further information for. Also Margaret and Susan (twins)were their last children. I worded my message incorrectly. The twins are sisters to my great grandfather Michael Russell, Margaret was not Michael's twin. Incidentally Michael Russell was born as RUSSEL. Thank you for your reply, Best Wishes Ernene ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carmel M Reynen" <fcfibre1@bigpond.com> To: <AUS-MELBOURNE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 14, 2006 1:24 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-MELB] Look up birth please Russell, Victoria > Ernene > Is it possible that there was a second marriage here somewhere.
