Hi Colleen, William Henry DOYLE may have been on both the ship's list when it left ENGLAND and when it arrived here but he may have died at sea. I have done some work for a gentleman in ENGLAND who had a family come to AUSTRALIA. The father died aboard ship two months into the voyage and was buried at sea. This gentleman has all of the data relating to the death / sea burial etc. and yes his ancestor's name is on both the ship's list out of ENGLAND and it also appears on the ship's list when it arrived in VICTORIA; in fact his name is listed on the VIC. PRO Immigration site along with the rest of his family who did survive the voyage. Do John & Eliza Bridget DOYLE nee O'NEIL's death certificates state whether William Henry was still alive when they died (or had other children born in AUSTRALIA) or is he listed as being dead? William was on the passenger list when the ship AFGHAN left London and was on the list when it arrived in Melb, but he was not on the list of passengers leaving Melb for Sydney a few days later. I can not find anything on him in NSW. Many thanks Colleen
Hi Dorne, Many thanks for your assistance. I do not have a death cert on John Doyle or Eliza Bridget O'Neill, as I know nothing of them except their arrival per PROV with children, James, John, Thomas, Joseph Patrick, Mary Agnes, Francis and William Henry. I have a copy of the original hand written passenger list of the AFGHAN when it departed London Aug 1879 and also one on arrival in Melb and the one where they are departing for Sydney, the Doyle family and crew seem to be the only ones listed on the ship's list to Sydney and William Henry Doyle was missing. I can not fnd a thing on any of the family after they arrived in Sydney, except our grandfather, JOHN BARTHOLOMEW DOYLE, born Wexford 1864, he settled in the Bourke/Dubbo area and had 8 daughters. On his death cert it states he was born in Wexford Ireland to parents John and Eliza (as above) and who he married etc, just the normal entries. I do not think they returned to Vic, they may have just dropped John off in Bourke then sailed back to Wexford !!!! Many thanks Colleen NSW ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dorne Saunders" <Dornes1@bigpond.com> To: <AUS-MELBOURNE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 15, 2006 3:22 AM Subject: [AUS-MELB] William Henry DOYLE > Hi Colleen, > William Henry DOYLE may have been on both the ship's list when it left > ENGLAND and when it arrived here but he may have died at sea. > I have done some work for a gentleman in ENGLAND who had a family come to > AUSTRALIA. > The father died aboard ship two months into the voyage and was buried at > sea. > This gentleman has all of the data relating to the death / sea burial etc. > and yes his ancestor's > name is on both the ship's list out of ENGLAND and it also appears on the > ship's list when it arrived in VICTORIA; in fact his name is listed on the > VIC. Hi Colleen and Dorne, I agree with Dorne as I have Charles Blight POWER, a twin, come out on the Fitzjames in 1854. He died at sea and his brother, Francis Foot POWER, died in Melbourne the next year. Both were written down upon arrival. However, on the Digger - Pioneer Index. Victoria 1836-1888. Surname: POWER Given Names: Charles Event: D Spouse Surname/Father: Austin Spouse Gvn Names/Mother: Harriet BARDENS Age: INF Sex: Birth Place: PLYMOUTH Death Place: AT SEA Year: 1854 Reg Number: 119M Denomination: Parish: Fiche: Surname: POWER Given Names: Francis Foot Event: D Spouse Surname/Father: Austin Spouse Gvn Names/Mother: Harriet Age: 2 Sex: Birth Place: PLYM Death Place: Year: 1855 Reg Number: 6528 So you see it might pay to look there to see if he died at sea eh. Hooray, Warren in Ballarat, Australia (ex Kiwi). ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dorne Saunders" <Dornes1@bigpond.com> To: <AUS-MELBOURNE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 15, 2006 3:22 AM Subject: [AUS-MELB] William Henry DOYLE > Hi Colleen, > William Henry DOYLE may have been on both the ship's list when it left > ENGLAND and when it arrived here but he may have died at sea.
