Hi listers, I'm hoping SKS can help me solve a mystery that I have decided to have another go at after a few year's break. My Benjamin Dean JACKSON, died 1.2.1873, is buried in Melb. Gen. Cem. with 3 of his children, but there is also a mystery woman named Mary BURDETT there too, buried on 8.6.1896. Now, Ben's wife was Mary ROBINSON (nee Reed) who outlived him, and it's so easy to just assume that Mary married again to a ? BURDETT. I don't have CD's, in fact my IMac won't take them, so I had to trawl through fiche the long way but still could not find a marriage for a Mary JACKSON and a BURDETT. I realize this could have happened interstate, but why would she then be buried in Vic (IF this was her?) I guess what I need is a kind person with CD's to look for the marriage of Mary JACKSON and a BURDETT, post 1873, plus the death of Mary BURDETT in 1896. Mary JACKSON'S parents were William JACKSON and Esther STONE, so if Mary BURDETT'S parents are the same then Bingo! Thanks, Robyn of Geelong.
Robyn, if it was a public grave it is quite possible that the Mary buried there is no relation at all as it was common to use the same plot for other burials later. having said that I hope you find your Mary. regards Evelyn ----- Original Message ----- From: "francesco acciarito" <fracc@ozemail.com.au> To: <AUS-MELBOURNE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 20, 2006 7:06 PM Subject: [AUS-MELB] A mysterious burial >
The easiest way out of all this is would you leave this with me and I'll do some asking for you, but if you get a email from someone called Gina from Melbourne Cemeteri then she might be able to help you seeing it's so long ago Regards, Ray.
