Hi Robyn, Not sure if this was mentioned in a previous post, but on one of Joseph & Jane's children's birth rego.'s (Walter Leslie 1893) Jane's maiden name is given as 'Grinley'. So looking at the Vic BDM's from 1836-1888 - I found this marriage... Digger - Pioneer Index. Victoria 1836-1888 Surname: GRINLY Given Names: Jane Isabella Event: M Spouse Surname/Father: THOMAS (b.Prahan) Spouse Gvn Names/Mother: John Age: Sex: F Birth Place: NEW ZEALAND Death Place: Year: 1886 Reg Number: 1796 Denomination: Parish: Fiche: As you can see it mentions Jane was born in NZ Perhaps Thomas died or they separated. Thomas & Jane have a Mary Thomas in 1887 Fitzroy. Okeydokey... found Jane's death... Digger - Death Index. Victoria 1921-1985 Surname: JACKSON Given Names: Jane Isabella Father: Mitchell Jas Grinley Mother: Unknown UNKNOWN Death Place: FCRAY Age: 70 Age Code: Year: 1935 Reg Number: 3855 Event: D Take a pick as to what Jane's real maiden name was. :) I looked for a second marriage under Grin*, but no luck. It's possible Joseph & Jane didn't marry. Perhaps Jane's death certificate may shed some light. Kind regards, Sherrie. This is even more interesting as I found that Jane Isabella"s Father was James Ginley Mitchell that's on her Death record so it gets even more confusing by the day. Nor could I find Walter Leslie's Birth registration last night but then it was very late and I was tired I could have missed it. So where did the Surname "Mitchell" come from? Regards, Ray. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sherrie Blackman" <silkweb@tpg.com.au> To: <AUS-MELBOURNE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 24, 2006 4:42 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-MELB] A LOOKUP PRETTY PLEASE? > Hi Robyn, > > Not sure if this was mentioned in a previous post, but on one of Joseph & > Jane's > children's birth rego.'s (Walter Leslie 1893) Jane's maiden name is given > as 'Grinley'. > > So looking at the Vic BDM's from 1836-1888 - I found this marriage... > > Digger - Pioneer Index.
