I agree Wendy. I have always had this caricature of my Great Grandfather drawn in France in 1917 by a friend who signed ‘VASCO’. I never knew any more about it, until I started researching my family history about 8 months ago! Yesterday I finally discovered who the artist was!! :-) His name was Louis Vasco, son of Arthur and Marie Louriero and husband of Gwendlyn. He sadly died of sickness about 8 months after he drew the picture. It is really wonderful to know more about who he was. My Great Grandfather had treasured the picture throughout the remainder of the War and brought it home. You can tell he had kept it folded up in a pocket or something. Louis studied in Melbourne apparently – his school was recorded as being St Xaviere Melbourne. Does anyone know anything about this school at all? My next mission is to try and find a photo of him if possible, though I don’t expect I’ll have any luck there. Still any more info I can gather would be fantastic. It’s really great to know more about him, in finding out more about my Great Grandfather’s friend, I feel as though I’m finding out more about him in some way, Tamara. -- Internal Virus Database is out-of-date. Is it Xavier College - think it is in Kew or maybe Hawthorn? Very big very famous, traditional school if it is. I would think they would have a website you could check up on. Yes.. http://www.xavier.vic.edu.au/ There is nothing coming up on google for St Xaviere... -----Original Message----- From: Tamara Weller [mailto:tamweller@optusnet.com.au] Sent: Friday, 21 April 2006 8:29 PM To: AUS-MELBOURNE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-MELB] re anzac day I agree Wendy.
