However from my research I think you are correct about the Home in the 1890s. I have 2 of 'my' unemployed men living at the Immigrants Home in 1892/3. The address given was St Kilda Rd. One of them was married with no kids and the other a widower with no kids. They had been unemployed for 18 mths and 2 years so would have been destitute.
