    3. Following on from Carmel's request for information for an 1842 marriage, what would one expect to find on a DEATH Cert' in Victoria, for 1848 please? Early New Zealand death certificates that I have, are limited in detail, (name, date, age and cause of death only) so are wondering if Victoria ones may produce a similiar result. Thanks everyone. Regards, Marina Christchurch New Zealand

    3. Robyn thankyou for the answer but these certificates did not start until around 1852, the one I was looking at was previous to this and basically has the names and signatures. Hardly worth purchasing really depending on what you want, The modern certs are based on I believe the Scottish system and worth everything if you know nothing. thankyou for your time and help Carmel ----- Original Message ----- From: "francesco acciarito" <fracc@ozemail.com.au> To: <AUS-MELBOURNE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 04, 2006 3:34 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-MELB] Certificate Information - DEATH > Hi, the earliest death cert I have so far is for 1857 It has; > > Where and when Died; Name and Surname, Rank or Profession; Sex and Age; > Cause of Death, Duration of last illness, Medical Attendant by whom > certified, and when he last saw Deceased; Name and Surname of Father and > Mother, if known, with Rank or Profession; Signature, Description, and > Residence of Informant; Signature of Deputy Registrar, Date , and where > Registered; If Burial Registered - When and Where Buried, Undertaker by > whom Certified; Name and Religion of Minister, or names of Witnesses of > Burial; Where Born, and how long in the Australian Colonies, stating > which; If Deceased was Married - Where, and at what Age, and to Whom; > Issue in order of Birth, their Names and Ages. > > Enough info for you? 3. I suspect that pre 1853? when official registration came in, it was just a church burial record that gives very little info. I note Robyn's death cert is after the official reg was in place. And yes, they are very informative. Ii wouold definitely check the Vic BDM site and see what, if anything, they say - I think, Marina, that for the 1840s you will get the same sort of thing as you get in NZ. Well the actual certificates are not too bad, providing the informant got it right, however 1848 is prior to the start of Civil Registration so all you would get is whatever details the particular demonination entered in their Burial Register.
