Hello Carmel, Excuse my ignorance but have just realised the info I have is from the UNasssisted passenger list. Peter Broadhurst arrived on the 'Bombay' in December 1852 accompanied by his wife Caroline (nee Fleming) and children: Louisa 10 yrs, Frances 7 yrs, Emily 4 yrs and William 2 yrs. They had a child, Amelia, born on voyage in the Bay of Biscay. I know he married in London, St Pancras. I have his marriage cert which confirms his occupation as a carpenter and names his father as Thos Broadhurst, carpenter. I have his death cert which leaves unanswered questions. He died in 1867 in Ballarat of 'epilepsy congestion of the brain' after a six day illness. The informant is a 'friend' who seemed to be confused about his family. His children are named but his wife is listed as his mother(?) leading me to think that the informant didn't know him too well. Wife is listed as unkown. His profession is confirmed as a carpenter. I have his wife's death certificate. She died in 1874. My grandmother is 92. She is descended from him via Amelia (and also from John Dunlop the gold discoverer). I remember her showing me Peter Broadhurst's diary when I was a child but of course I wasn't that interested then (how I kick myself now!). Apparently another member of the family has it but she cannot remember who, just that it was published at one time in a Melbourne newspaper around the 1960's. I know his diary made reference to another family on board who lost a child and he was very distressed by it. He and his wife must have befriended another family on board by the name of Hull. Their son James was born in Port Phillip and he married Amelia Broadhurst - hence my presence! Such small snippets of info and such big holes! I was just hoping to find some 'lists' of arrivals. Cheers Maureen I have been trying via the lists and other avenues to contact family in Melbourne but have turned up nothing of interest. The info I read in 'The Somerset Years' made me wonder if there was a source of 'arrivals' history that I was unaware of.
