Hi Leanne Thanks for your response. He could well have done so. There is folk lore of him having been sent to Australia as a remittence man, also of him being sent to join a brother who was farming, and another of him having met Ned Kelly. If he was born in 1866 as he claimed he would have been only 14 when Ned kelly was hanged. But, like all folklore, there may be glimmers of truth mixed up somewhere. I did find a Charles William Dunn who was born in Melbourne in 1865 or thereabouts, but he died in Melbourne in 1938.
