His daughter was born at Lygon Street, Carlton in that year and I was wondering if anyone had any idea whether there was a hospital in that street at the time. John's address is shown as Ralston Street. It is believed that he owned an engineering shop. Is it possible that there are records relating to businesses in that area during the 1860s? This John died between November 1863 and 1867, but I have been unable to locate a death record. Perhaps lair records may throw some light on the matter, but where were the 'local' cemeteries?
