Dear Listers, A couple of things went wrong for me. The main problem was I was looking at the wrong part of the Vic BDM on-line site for purchase of certificates outside the 10 year rule. The death Index does only go to 1985 on-line so, you have leave the Index number out of your application. If you are outside the 10 year rule you don't have to supply personal references. I didn't test the less than 10 year rule, however, it appears you have to be a close relative to qualify. Best regards.......Ian.
So you had to get a full certificate at that cost, rather than a download image at $17.50??? Hi Tom, I couldn't see how to do the download without having the Index No. Late today I was about to fill out the forms, pay $25.80 and mail off the application when I got the result of another line of attack, I had set in motion to find Geoffrey's family. This morning I asked a friend to go to the Federal Electoral Office today, if possible, and look up Geoffrey's wife. There was only one listing[lucky], so I looked up the phone number and called late today. It was her. We had a long talk, she knew nothing about her husbands family, but was very pleased to hear from me. I will now send her all my info on the family. Initially I was after the death certificate to get the name and address of the informant. As it turns out, from talking to Geoffrey's wife, the address is not the same today. Also as a matter of interest, the other day I contacted The Necropolis at Springvale, to try and get the name and address of the purchaser of Geoffrey's burial spot but they wouldn't give it to me for privacy reasons. I know the spot[s] were purchased when Geoffrey died 22 years ago, so keeping it secret now seems a little extreme. Maybe a "ten year" restriction would be more appropriate. The big advantage I have found from previous experience when using the Electoral Role is you can enter the persons full name, if you have it. This is much better than the on-line telephone White Pages which only allow entry of one initial and surname. When I checked the White Pages for Geoffrey's wife the other day, using her initial and surname, I got over 100 hits, too many to work through. So, it had a happy ending this evening. Best regards.........Ian. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Perrett" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, October 24, 2008 7:20 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-MELBOURNE] Explantion Vic Death Cert query > So you had to get a full certificate at that cost, rather > than a download image at $17.50??? > > Tom > > > > On Fri, 24 Oct 2008 15:39:16 +1100, Ian Nicholls wrote: > >> Dear Listers, >> A couple of things went wrong for me. >> The main problem was I was looking at the wrong part of the Vic BDM >> on-line site for purchase of certificates outside the 10 year rule. >> The death Index does only go to 1985 on-line so, you have leave the >> Index number out of your application. >> If you are outside the 10 year rule you don't have to supply personal >> references. >> I didn't test the less than 10 year rule, however, it appears you have >> to be a close relative to qualify. >> Best regards.......Ian. >> >>------------------------------- >>To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to >>[email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the >>quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > Cheers, > > Tom <[email protected]> Tom Perrett > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
