G'day list, I still have an ongoing mystery; I've sought assistance with it in the past and received a lot of valuable help. This has all been followed up & acted upon where possible but all to no avail. I have a cousin (son of my Grandfathers brother) named Ernest James Paterson born 1920 in Shepparton Victoria to Stanley James Paterson and Annie Kathleen Carroll. Anecdotally he passed away about 1970 he was reputed to be well in the grip of the grape. PROV doesn't seem to have a death registration for him and therefore no Death Certificate. Is there any reason why this should be, other than maybe he's still alive somewhere? He served in the AIF during WW11 also he is said to have been a musician in a South Melb. Brass Band. He did marry and his wife is deceased there is a death Cert for her. I have looked for him at PROV Fawkner Cemetery, The Necropolis I've applied to the FOI site and as there was a story that he had been murdered I checked with Vic Police Homicide and received a nice but negative reply from an Inspector there. Any ideas as to where else I can look. Col Paterson Going rusty on the soggy Gold Coast

Col The death indexes do only go to 1985 and it is possible he died after that date. If he was in the grip of the grape he may have been preserved for a few more years. Or perhaps he went interstate. If his wife had a death cert, is there any children listed on there. And also have you tried for a will? You could try his wife and for him. Available at Prov, if he had died and his wife had a will this would be mentioned.
