I've had a more indepth look at this lady and it seems both Ada and Joan's explanations could fit the circumstance here. The three sons mentioned pre-deceased her. They died at 3, 4, and 7. Sadly two of them only a few months apart. There may have been a daughter not mentioned on the head stone - there's an 18-year old woman of a different surname buried in the same grave 29 years before Agnes that's recorded on the cemetery website. No William I can tie to her but the wording "of the late" certainly indicates he passed away before she did. So someone ordered the head stone "In memory of our dear mother" when she was the last buried in that grave. There could have been more children. Many thanks for the responses. I have an explanation for REFLICT that fits. Alan. Ada Ackerly wrote: > Sorry, Denise, it means "widow of" indicating that the husband died > first.
