Hi, can someone explain what REFLICT means. I vistited a possible ancestors grave today and it said: "In Memory of our dear mother Agnes Armstrong who died March 25th 1916 REFLICT of the late Willian Armstrong Dearly loved Sadly missed also her children James Frank David " I think the spelling of FEFLICT is correct. The stone was fairly well effected by the years. Alan.
Hi Alan - My guess, seeing that you mentioned that the monument is worn is that the said word is "relict" a quite common word used. For example at the Cheltenham Pioneer Cemetery: "Sacred to the memory of / Margaret / relict of the late / John FLEMING / who died 6th May 1911, / aged 78 years. / R.I.P / also Mary A. / beloved wife of / Michael ROCHE / died 30th Jan. 1936. / aged 70 years. / R.I.P / in loving memory of / Patrick John FLEMING / died 4th June 1936 aged 64 yrs. / also / Margaret Hastings FLEMING / loved wife of above / died 5th June 1955 aged 74 yrs." I hope this helps. Kind regards Travis M. Hi Alan, I think you will find that the word id "relic" . I have an ancestor with that on her headstone and it means wife. Not a very nice descrioption is it? Regards Denise
Relict in this instance means - widow of the late William Armstrong, and the last surviving family member (eg.....no children are living of this relationship). cheers Jenny F ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alan Pine" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, July 28, 2008 7:47 PM Subject: [AUS-MELBOURNE] Relfict > Hi, > > can someone explain what REFLICT means. > > I vistited a possible ancestors grave today and it said: > "In Memory > of our dear mother > Agnes Armstrong > who died March 25th 1916 > REFLICT of the late > Willian Armstrong > Dearly loved Sadly missed > also her children > James Frank David " > > I think the spelling of FEFLICT is correct.
