Hi Fran Have you obtained the Death Reg for Joseph Bowles? It should name all the children and whether still alive or deceased. I searched the Australian War Memorial site for an Albert William Bowles and he is not listed. He might have died as a child or he went overseas before WW1. He does not appear to be on any registers in Aus including Electoral Rolls so possibly went overseas. I was informed yesterday that a lot of victorians went to either south Africa or New Zealand about this time. I know of the New Zealand thing but was not aware of South Aftrica emigration before now. It also does not mean he did not stay here, it may be he is just not listed anywhere and he has escaped being noticed by the authorities somehow. Maybe he died as a very young baby, I have one we have a birth for but then nothing, the others were christened and registered in schools etc but nothing on the little girl, we have to assume she died as a young baby, maybe even shortly after birth but only one registration has gone in. Frustrating I know.
