    3. Hello Alan, The ship you want is the POCTIERS which lefty Southampton on 22 Sept 1853 and arrived Melbourne 6 Jan 1854. The listing you must check is ASSISTED immigrants, and it is in Book 9, and you are very lucky, both the initial "nominal" passenger list AND the "disposal" list survive, so you should, via the disposal list, see who they went to work for and how much they were paid (with/ without rations). At least you have been given an approximation of the name of the ship, unlike a query I once had, where they were told grandma arrived on the "Raisin" and I found her a passenger on the "SULTANA"! Maybe granny was mixing the Christmas pudding when she was asked "What ship did you come on, Gran?" and her mind was more on the job in hand, rather than the question!
