    3. Well, my son recently upgraded me to a new computer with Windows 7, and has loaded my Digger CDs onto the hard drive for easier access. They work well. Regards, Sandra.

    3. Hi Folks, I have found Windows 7 to be compatible with most of my Win XP software except for the Macbeth Victorian Pioneer BDM cds. However, they run well when in "XP Mode" in Windows 7. The catch is that XP Mode is not available in the Home or Home Premium versions of Win 7, you need Windows 7 Professional or higher. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64bit OEM (cost AU$160) and it works well with all of my 32bit programs. The only drawback that I can see is that Windows 7 does not come with an imbedded email program (such as Outlook Express did with Windows XP). You either have to use the web based WindowsLive program or do like I did and install Mozilla's Thunderbird email program which works well on Win 7. I also use Firefox as my web browser because of the security issues associated with Microsoft's Internet Explorer, it is well known that IE has all sorts of virus and malware weaknesses. Cheers, Barry Howard, Victoria, Aust. maureen holman wrote: > I would also like to know as I am thinking of upgrading. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Judith Gallus" <jessjuba@yahoo.com.au> > To: <aus-melbourne@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Saturday, February 27, 2010 1:20 PM > Subject: [AUS-MELBOURNE] Windows 7 > > > Hi List, > This not the normal request, but was wondering if anyone is using Windows 7 > I'm thinking of updating. > And I know that folks had trouble with their Genealogy Cd's in Vista - not > working, all mine work fine in XP > But what about Windows 7, do they all run in this lastest Windows? 3. G'day Judy, there is a list on Rootsweb called PAF 5 and there has been a lot of enquiries on it regarding your very question. If you go and look in their archives I'm sure you will find your answer. My personal thoughts are that Paf 5.2 the latest issue runs perfectly well, different a little bit but well. The general feeling of most contributors is the there are only a very few genealogy programmes that don't. Suck it and see seems to be the feeling, if it doesn't work for you they seem to be able to fix it. Col

    3. Dennis There is a series of books available through Gould Books that have been published, I believe through the Queensland Genies but cannot remmeber exactly. They are available at http://www.gould.com.au/Emigrants-Hamburg-to-Australia-1857-59-p/qfh013.htm. I am not advertising here jut letting you know that they are there. I want to get one of them myself but have never gotten around to it and it is the only reference I have been able to find so far. 3. Hi Dennis, I've been told by the Registry that the 100 year rule applies now, so no births available after 1911, I guess. I cannot see a 'bernard gladstone smith' in the deaths, which go up to 1985 but he could be there as a straight 'bernard smith' or he died after 1985. I see he's listed in a Government Gazette in 1974- Jan > From: dennis_schinkle@bigpond.com > To: aus-melbourne@rootsweb.com > Date: Mon, 22 Feb 2010 20:51:07 -0800 > Subject: [AUS-MELBOURNE] Smith > > Hi > > Can some one do a birth look-up for Bernard Gladstone Smith born 1922.
