Robert, go to Google maps and you can check it out for yourself they are industrial suburbs fairly close together west of Footscray. Just type in Deer Park and search, It's easy. Col
The AML Wool Stores I believe were in South Melbourne? Could anyone tell me more about as to where exactly they were and if records of employees still exist and if so; where may they be found? Nobel Explosive Factory, Deer Park? I understand that the Nobel Explosive Factory was taken over by ICI? Again; I am seeking to find if there are any records remaining of Employees and where if any exist; they may be found? Regards; Robert KEMSLEY
Giddy Robert, I can remember going past the Dynamite factory (Nobel's) I think along Somerville road Sunshine not too far from the Sunshine Harvester plant on the way to Smorgan's and Borthwick's meatworks and Abbattoirs. Col Paterson

Ron Centrelink , until recent years, used to have a family contact service. One could write to them to ask to pass a letter on to a family member being searched. You won;t get an answer on whether they make contact or not, but it is one option. Alternatively the Salvation Army have a family assist service cheers Jenny ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ron Fitzpatrick" <fitzp369@iinet.net.au> To: <AUS-MELBOURNE@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 22, 2010 9:27 AM Subject: [AUS-MELBOURNE] Prison Information - Charles McNulty > Dear Listers, > > I have been searching for a Charles McNulty b Belfast 1933 Migrated to > Melbourne in 1952 on Board the 'Somersetshire' aged 18 and Single, to be a > Conductor for the Victorian Tramways, his Family has had no contact with him > since 1956. > > Last resort is the Prison system. > > Is there any such a thing as Prisoner records to be looked at. > > Thank you for, Charles McNulty's Sister Margaret. > > Ron Fitzpatrick. > South Australia > > > > > > E-mail message checked by Spyware Doctor (7.0.0.514) > Database version: 6.14600 > http://www.pctools.com/en/spyware-doctor-antivirus/ > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to AUS-MELBOURNE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

Go to an Australian Electorate Commission office and try a search there. He may never have registered though. Worth a try. http://www.aec.gov.au/About_AEC/Contact_the_AEC/index.htm Free to search on a terminal in the office. I believe they can't offer you help - just access to the terminal. Alan. Dear Listers, I have been searching for a Charles McNulty b Belfast 1933 Migrated to Melbourne in 1952 on Board the 'Somersetshire' aged 18 and Single, to be a Conductor for the Victorian Tramways, his Family has had no contact with him since 1956. Last resort is the Prison system. Is there any such a thing as Prisoner records to be looked at. Thank you for, Charles McNulty's Sister Margaret. Ron Fitzpatrick. Dear All I have just posted St. Thomas' Anglican Church Cemetery, Tea Tree, Tasmania, on Headstones from Tasmanian Cemeteries, partner site of Australian Cemeteries: http://www.ozgenonline.com/~riacaroline/ http://www.australiancemeteries.com/ With kindest regards, Ria Kotynia.
Within the family; we've a Walter McKINNIN. Walter McKINNIN married a Margaret Ellen BRYANT here in Sydney in November of 1942. The Marriage Certificate records Walter as being 28 b) Belfast, Ireland. Father: John McKINNIN - Engine Driver Mother: Mary KELLY This would make Walter b) 1914. Walter told family; He was born 1900. His Father married (1) Agnes THOMPSON (A Dancing Teacher in Scotland) (2) Mary KELLY & that he (Walter) was raised by his Step Mother. He came out to Australia when 13 and again when 16; lying about age and jumping ship Worked a farm in WA with a brother whom he argued with; walking off farm; leaving to his brother Another brother going to Canada He had sisters Isabel & Margaret This would make him b) Scotland and raise Belfast, Ireland? No record of Birth can be found Belfast, Ireland 1900-1914. How or when he came to Australia is a real mystery and nothing is really known about until he appeared in Sydney in 1942 to marry; thereafter appearing on the Electoral Rolls. I am aware of when and where he was after his Marriage, but try as I might; I just cannot find any trace of pre his Marriage. I have been searching in Western Australia, but if has been suggested that he may have lived Victoria prior to his marriage in 1942. I do know that he moved from Sydney to the Melbourne in late 1945 and remained till his death in 1989. If anyone is researching the McKINNIN name, can assist in any way; I would be ever so very grateful, as I've been at it on and off since mid 1988 without success and now just don't know where next to look. Hi Barry & List Thank you for posting the link, its a very good list of what works and what doesn't with window 7,we needed a new computer about 2 months ago,I had been informed about the diggers cd may not work on window 7,so I had my old windows xp put on the new one,so glad I did, when you pay out around $200 a cd (I have all the Vic & SA diggers cd),only to find out they may not work in the future its a lot of money going down the drain. http://www.gouldgenealogy.com/2010/03/genealogydata-cds-and-windows-7/ Julie > Hello List, > > I have just found the following webpage that might be of use to those > with questions about the compatibility of Windows 7 with their genealogy > cds. > > http://www.gouldgenealogy.com/2010/03/genealogydata-cds-and-windows-7/ > > The link will take you to a commercial website which gives a list of > genealogy cds that can or cannot be used in Windows 7. Hello List, I have just found the following webpage that might be of use to those with questions about the compatibility of Windows 7 with their genealogy cds. http://www.gouldgenealogy.com/2010/03/genealogydata-cds-and-windows-7/ The link will take you to a commercial website which gives a list of genealogy cds that can or cannot be used in Windows 7. I would like to make it clear however, that I am not connected with this company in any way and am not posting this as a form of advertisement for them. Regards, Barry Howard, Vic. Aust.
Hi Elaine, Judging from comments made on this list over the past few weeks it seems that some people are able to use their Vic BDM cds with Windows 7 while others are not. I don't know the reason for this but in my own case it is because I am using the 64bit version of Windows 7 and my 32bit Vic BDM cds are not compatible. I overcame my problem by running Windows 7 in "XP Mode" which allowed me to install the cds ok. It is my understanding however, that XP Mode is not available in the Home, or Home Premium, versions but does come with Windows 7 Professional or higher. The fact that some people are able to install the cds tells me that there is a way around the problem somehow, but I haven't been able to figure it out yet. Perhaps someone on the list can be of more help to you. Regards, Barry Howard, Victoria, Aust. Hi Anne, It is good that you got BDM cds running ok, but in my case it is not so strange as I am using the 64bit version of Windows 7. The cds are just not compatible with that version, but I can use them in "XP Mode". Barry Howard, Vic. Aust. Hi Elaine, I asked a similiar question about Windows 7 recently as I was thinking of updating my pc from XP & did the Genie Cd's we all have run in Window 7 Can't remember quite where I got this answer, it was mail list of some kind but here is the answer I received back - I also now run on Mozilla & I have not had any trouble with my pc since then, so I am not updating yet.............. Hope this helps, it sure helped me............Judy I have found Windows 7 to be compatible with most of my Win XP software except for the Macbeth Victorian Pioneer BDM cds. However, they run well when in "XP Mode" in Windows 7. The catch is that XP Mode is not available in the Home or Home Premium versions of Win 7, you need Windows 7 Professional or higher. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64bit OEM (cost AU$160) and it works well with all of my 32bit programs. The only drawback that I can see is that Windows 7 does not come with an imbedded email program (such as Outlook Express did with Windows XP). You either have to use the web based WindowsLive program or do like I did and install Mozilla's Thunderbird email program which works well on Win 7. I also use Firefox as my web browser because of the security issues associated with Microsoft's Internet Explorer, it is well known that IE has all sorts of virus and malware weaknesses./ ________________________________ 1.
