Hi Wayne, So do you know the name of the wife and did they married in Tassie or Melbourne, then we might be able to help you? I find two Edwards, one who married someone by the name of Jessie Paterson, and the other who's wife's name was Emma Shirley. Edward and Jessie settled at Sandhurst (Bendigo) and the other Edward and Emma settled at Geelong. I do not have any other the Tassie disks, so I'm not able to help you with Tassie. Sorry. But looking at the dates I'd say it could be Edward and Jessie. And can only find one marriage in Victoria and that is for Edward John Sharpe and Emma Beveridge at Ballarat, in 1874 R# 4088 and moving to Geelong fits within the same area. Regards, Ray. Hi all I am having trouble getting any information on the SHARPE family that lived in the Great Dalby district around the early 1800's. From the records that I have been able to obtain is that a Edward SHARPE and his wife Sarah (I believe that her maiden name was PICK) had lived in Great Dalby around 1800 to at least 1811 and had at least three children. Their names are as follows John SHARPE born abt 1805 Frances SHARPE born abt 1807 Edward SHARPE born abt 1811 Edward (junior) later left Great Dalby and head to Tasmania in Australia and met his future wife where they both settled in Victoria and raised their family. As the the remainder of the family that stayed ? in Great Dalby is a mystery. If anyone that can assist in providing me with further information, it would be greatly appreciated and I have hit a brick wall in finding info on them. Thanks Wayne Hill
Many thanks to all who answered my request Liz abbott1@hot.net.au
Hi Jenni & Leona, Be very cautious about the AVRI. In many cases the places have been confused. For example, with Victorian marriages the place listed is the place of birth of the first person named - not the place of the event. Tasmania and Victoria had different laws about the recording of BDMs so it would not have been extremely unlikely, if not impossible for a marriage that occurred in Tas to be registered in Vic. best wishes, Jenny -----Original Message----- From: Leona Smithurst <kingskid@dodo.com.au> To: AUS-MELBOURNE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Fri, 17 Feb 2006 11:13:38 +1000 Subject: Re: [AUS-MELB] Look up for Ellen Lyle Please Hi Jenni, The only Ellen LYLE birth I found (on AVRI) was b. 1866.......I think this one would have been too young to have married in 1877...
